Good Punk/Emo Songs!

theres actually a descent amount of people that like hard rock and punk here.... but i dont know one other emo fan at my school. There's people who might like a band or two, and a lot of local-music people, but for the most part nobody into the larger indi scene

Everyone at my school are hardcore Eminem fans. :ohwell: It's kind of sickening. I blame it on Kiss 92. They used to have the Top 40 hits when I was in grade four and I go to America for one year, come back and BOOM what is it like now? RAP CRAP! Ugh... I can't stand it sometimes. My friend Julie.. well not so much friend anymore since we're always getting into fights likes rock but not emo. She says it's too depressing but whatever.. I'll make her like it. Candice PRETENDS she likes it. Two days ago, I told her all about Taking Back Sunday since that's what I'm so obsessed with and she thinks she knows all about it now and goes to Marina and says omg I can't believe I liked that rap crap. Whatever! She's just saying that to make me happy and be my friend because whenver I'm friends with Julie once we've made up which we will again this time when Marina finally disses her up and makes all of us even with Julie, we ditch Candice. Why? I know it's not very nice but she's digusting to be around. Everyone hates her! She's fat, ugly and frankly, has no friends. Damnnit, I'm in such a pissed off mood today, sorry for ranting but I needed to get that off my back. On the bright side, I'm getting a digital camera in about 20 minutes! :lol:

What's so wrong with her trying to make you happy? So she says a white lie. I think you are being rude by trying to force music on your friends. Maybe she says that because she wants to be your friend because she doesn't have any. If I knew someone didn't have any friends, I would try to be really nice to them. And saying you don't like her just because she is fat?? It's all about image these days....

but theres something that really bothers me about people who deny liking rap just so they can pretend to be cool with you and put on an immage or whatever.

i go to an all-thug school.. theres a total of less than 10 punks, and theyre all in gr 10 and 9.. but luckily i turned out okay with my music tastes lol

Emily, you're right about the fat thing, I was getting caught up in the moment. She's done a lot of things that you'll never know and under the circumstances, I wasn't totally wrong to diss her. Anyway, I just don't like it when a person disses another person when they've liked the same type of music like 2 days ago, only to try and be friends with me? Well, I like that they're doing that but it would be better if they honestly liked the music. She only likes (and im not even sure if she really does) Cute without the E (cut from the team). it's catchy but she won't listen to any slow emo. ohhh whatever. :uh:

I go to a non-rap school... the thugs are pretty well drowned out because the rest of the school has good taste.

you are lucky then. i can accept other people's music tastes, even though i may be of a different opinion. i don't try and enforce them to change what they listen to or anything like that either. others, however, take it up as their mission to convert me to a 'thug' ... they actually ask me why i listen to what i listen to and expect me to change it in order to fit in with them.
not only that, but i hear 'rock-on' or 'rocker' all the time. i don't like to be labeled and i don't do it, so fuck off and don't label me.

most of my school listens to rap too. But the group of kids i hang around with and whatever actually has a lot of people that dont listen to rap. Theres a dew grade 12's with good taste too

lately one of my friends keeps on going something like, "Why do you listen queer music like that. Someday you'll catch on, you dont know what your missing." wtf, like i dont know what i'm missing. I'm only forced to hear it everyday, cause it gets played all over the place. They're calling me "skater" now too, and i dont even skate. :wtf:

People enjoy labelling themselves these days. It's like saying your ethnicity before "American" or "Canadian". "Oh, I'm Italian-Canadian".

Does it matter? I'm American AND Canadian, I say. Because, well... half my family's from Canada, the other half's lived in America (or on American bases) for their life.

Now, Generation "Y" (as in, "Y can't we get a name that fucking makes more sense than that?") is prone to labelling themselves by their music and their clothing styles.

There's kids in my school that call themselves punk and have never heard of The Clash. They're always "All-American Rejects are THE MOST PUNK BAND OF ALL TIME". I shake my head at that, because it's really the most subjective statement ever made.

There's people who call themselves country... and don't know Johnny Cash. They think country music started with Tim McGraw.

Death metal fans run rampant, too. They all wear trenchcoats and dye their hair a million different colors, too. They're all "other music sucks".

We've had fights break out over differences in "which genre is better". Ever seen a "thug" go at it with an "indie kid"?

Then, there's people like me. Avoiding labels. When conversations about what category people fit into comes up, I always get... "you're... you."

Which is what I want. People can't discover music by going through life. I mean, c'mon.

Two years ago, I was listening to Marilyn Manson, and then I discovered Our Lady Peace. I also bought Slipknot. Six months later, I discovered The Ramones, The Clash, Matthew Good, The Tragically Hip, and Bruce Springsteen.

And since then, it hasn't stopped. I've delved into hip-hop, punk, reggae, classic rock, jazz (both Big Band and the current state of it), metal, goth rock, emo, ska, pop (from Elton John to Avril Lavigne, I love it all) and bands that transcend genres, like Prodigy and The Beatles.

I've never let the music define me. And so, I can't quite understand why other people would want themselves to.

But they do.

And so, people's POV of the world is like the hat at the end of Bowling For Columbine: "FUCK EVERYONE".

Selfishness will kill us all.

every time i hear a punk song i think of the superfuck 9th graders at my school who pride themselves in labeling... i know i should feel stupid for letting them get to me but they (and their caution tape) are everywhere!

in terms of suggestions: avril lavigne! shes thought of as punk right? or wait, was that just her? :lol:
