Fire Kills At Least 65 At Rock Concert

Post by NunoFreak »

A fire killed at least 65 people at a rock concert last night in Rhode Island. It's a tragic thing that happened, and it sadly could have been prevented.

I read about this earlier. Even a member of the band is still missing. Pyrotechnics shouldn't be used indoors. Someone was real stupid on this one

"i tried to run back in to save people man, but they wouldn't let me, i tried."

yeah right. you know he was running his fat white washed up 80s metal man ass as far away as he could get.

It is sad. For some reason, I got more upset over this than like with the WTC. I guess I can just relate to this more....

Why are so many of you so negative. How do you know he didn't try and save anyone. Until you know for sure he ran like a scared little baby keep quiet. What if that was Raine that said that? I bet you wouldn't jump all over him and say that he ran.

Someone is going to get sued bigtime. The band say that they had permission to use the pyrotechnics but the club said that they didn't, and the owner of a club they played at last week said that they used them and didn't ask him either, and that one of his workers almost got burnt.

From what I read the place has a real low ceiling, so using the pyro was just really stupid.

I also dont think it's fair to say that about the singer. I'm sure he's devastated and I'm also sure anyone in that situation would've been running their asses off to get out. It also pisses me off that 3/4 of the news story is about blaming the other guy. Granted, who ever's fault it was is surely screwed for life, but it just seems really insensitive. The singer passes fault to the tour manager who passes fault to the club owner who passes fault to the singer. It's just kind of ridiculous.

it is. and it's not fair for me to say that, but i don't always especially care about being fair. maybe if the whole world and all of life was fair and just, then i'd be more careful with my words. but unfortunately a lot of stuff is horribly wrong with this world, (the situation at hand serves a prime example), so oh well.

Watching that footage inside the club just made me so sad because that small venues like that are my favourite place to see bands play - including seeing OLP a few times recently in really similar venues - like you say, it's just really relevant. It also makes me really thankful that everything worked out ok at the ULU show in November when there was a fire and we all got evacuated. Seeing how that fire took off so quickly was just scary. It's just so sad.

OLP doesnt set off fireworks

this is what happens when you go to see old washed up 80's bands. i think people would have seen them setting up fireworks. it is hard to blame anyone in this situation

it is sad though

I know a friend who knows the owner of The Stone Pony, and Great White pulled this same bullshit at their club. The owner of The Stone Pony said that Great White is to blame for this, and he would know how the band did shit behind the scenes. This is why bands like Great White should just give up and go away already! They're acting like it's 1989, setting off pyro in a small little club. Great White's to blame and they basically just murdered nearly 100 people, it's so sad...

You can't really say that and mean it, can you? Sure Great White is a washed up 80's band, but I would see them if they came to my small ass town, if not for just something to do and to laugh at them. Originally I said the same thing 'that's what they get for going to see Great White', but then I realized how stupid that is to say, especially considering 96 people were killed.

Can you even imagine? Who cares whose fault it was, who cares how crappy the band was, can you even imagine being in a place like that, full of smoke and falling debris and trampling people?

Fuck. Just.... fuck.

Did any of you see the footage of the front doors?? My god, those people were trapped in the doorway. All of the footage from that was just so disturbing and horrible to see. So scary to think it could happen so quickly. I'm just glad that all of the bands that I go to see are intellegent enough not to light pyros in such a small venue. I'm sure there will be much more strict rules about these things in the future, too, which is a very good thing... I just wish nearly 100 people hadn't had to die for it to happen.

On a lighter note... someone was bootlegging that show. Hah!

I think its ironic that all that video footage was shot by a news cameraman who was doing a follow up to a "safety in clubs" story following the Chicago stampede.

the footage brought tears to my eyes. the club looked so much like some that i've been to, but like nikki said, none of the bands i got to see use pyro indoors. watch the video was so emotional for me...it's so sad.
