left Pencey

Post by allison »

I went to London on Monday night to see left Pencey do an acoustic set at David Suzuki's Human Element Tour. The set was absolutely amazing. They get better every time I see them! As hard as it is for me to admit, my passion for their music has surpassed my love of OLP's music. I've never related to a band on this level before. Right now there's not much going on with the band, but I urge everyone to check out their album when it is released in the spring. It's going to create waves on the Canadian music scene, I guarantee it. I hung out with the guys after the show and can honestly say that I've never met a more intelligent, dedicated, and humble group of people. They are absolutely inspiring.

Is the band name a reference to Catcher in the Rye?

Allison is smack-dead-on right... left Pencey fawking rocks! I started listening to them about 2 1/2 years ago when I happened to see them perform a couple songs on TV... I was quite amazed by the rockin' energetic performance they put on (man! if only I would have taped it!!), so I downloaded a few songs that were scarcely available on Napster (yeah, good ol' Nappy was still around at that time).
After hearing a few tunes, I instantly became a fan of their music. I got in contact with the lead singer, Brad, and he soon hooked me up with their Indie release, "Synthetic", which I had in my CD player for around 2 months straight! (yes, it's that good)... I'm so glad I got a copy when I could because a year or so later Synthetic was not being sold anymore since the band was busy with a new record deal, recording for a new album, and didn't feel that it was a good representation of themselves anyways (which is totally untrue!).
Anyways, the guys are very passionate about their music and care for their fans unlike any band I've ever seen. Left Pencey will undoubtably be one of the big names on the Canadian Alt-Rock scene as soon as their album hits the stores this Spring, finally allowing the public to listen to one of the best kept secrets in Canada... so be sure to look out for them!

I can relate a band full of guys with Holden Caulfield complexes, heh. What are some good songs to get?

left Pencey

Gerry: If it wasn't for your incessent raving about left Pencey on the CC I would have never fallen for the band like I did. I am forever indebted to you for sending me some of their MP3's a couple of years ago.

Chris: That really is unfortunate that you didn't manage to pick up a copy of Synthetic. I got one from Brad a couple of years ago and still listen to it non-stop. I got it signed by the guys when I saw them in Kitchener last year and they were all shocked that I had a copy. It's in pretty high demand now that it's out of print!

Endymion: I have a really hard time recommending left Pencey songs because I have am at the point where I love every song that I hear by them. I wish everyone could hear the material that they've been playing live because it is some of the greatest work I've ever encountered. Unfortunately none of it is available online. However, if I must suggest songs for you to check out they would have to be Everyday Fear, So Many Dragons, Banging Around, Safe to Say, Never Wanted, Solution, Stable, and Time Machine. The last 3 are from Synthetic and the others are relatively new. The only one that the band regularly plays live is Everyday Fear. It may be their first single, so you should definitely check it out.

If any of you are having a hard time finding MP3's of any of these songs, feel free to e-mail me or contact me on ICQ or MSN and I'll gladly hook you up. The word has to be spread about these guys!

Yep, Allison and I can give out some songs to whoever wants them. Anything to help promote the Pencey!

I'd also highly recommend to get "Solution" first... that song is perfect

Pretty cool, then. I only have AIM, so I can't get them from Allison, so I'll probably try and get ahold of you there, sometime.

Pencey broke up. New album could have been great but I can share the tunes no longer. My apologies.

Well said Allison...

I've been listening to the new left Pencey album on a continous loop for the past few days and I don't intend on changing CD's any time soon!!
For all you who are still wondering who the hell this band is... now is the time to finally check them out! (you'll be glad you did)
I'll also be available to send the new left Pencey MP3's out to whoever is willing to listen (on ICQ/MSN).

Chris, if the songs are up on emtee.org, would you mind removing them? Sorry for the bother.
