fearofthetrailerpark.com sucks

Post by Mark Loj »

whats is up with this. They tooted and hooted about how interactive this webpage was going to be and all we've gotten so far is a like 10 pictures from the band and a couple of reports from these two fucking chicks who care more about telling thier own stories rather than the tour. What a bunch of shit. I know the DVD will make up for that. But whats the point of spending the time and money to advertise this website for the tour, just to have it sit there.

Yah i totally agree!! The last post was after Kelowna.... there have been 3 shows since and no report. I realize the tour just started and all.... but still.... it's only 8 shows!!! It's half way over now and there's been like no reports of how the shows have been.

Also, what's the point of putting up that stuff about stuff to do in the city if nothing is ever posted.... Sorry if this sounds rude... but i was thinking the exact same thing.... why have this website, in which people are trying to follow along who can't make it out to the shows if it is never up-dated!

i just think they put up the site and didnt realize how little spare time they would have to do updates and stuff, im sure the site will be updated soon.

Guys... do you have any idea how much work updating a website can be? If the answer is "no", then shut up. I'm sorry, but being a web specialist, hearing people complain about this kind of crap REALLY bothers me. I'm sure Stace is trying as hard as she can to update, but just hasn't had the time/energy to do so.

The site rocks. She did a wonderful job with it. It'll be updated eventually, I'm sure. Just be patient.

Nikki,
i'm not taking a shot at you or picking a fight in any way. But i do update various websites on a daily basis and it's not that tough. I've done updateing on the road over a cell phone and my labtop. I'm just a little dissapointed in the updating department with OLP in general. OLP.com is horrible. OLP.net was suppose to be great, and was for a while, but it hasn't been updated in a month and a half. I think it get to a point of dissapointment when Rich and Shelley at OLP.cc put 10000 times more effort into a website than the actual band (or whoever manages the site). OLP.cc is the best site in the world and i wish the band would atleast turn over the rights to the webpage to them so people can see what this band is all about the way these two fans present it. They're amazing. And OLP is damn lucky to have those two or else we would never hear about anything. Shit, i would of taking two weeks off of work and toured with these guys and posted every single thing they did (even when they take a piss!).

Having been the previous owner of OLP.net, and having Stacy work with me on that initial project I think I can have some input and authority on this.

This garbage about olp.net being an official fan site or an official fan club or whatever is just that. OLP.com is sony's investment. Nobody will ever turn the rights over to anybody to officially cover OLP because olp.com is a part of OLP's marketing. Sony invests millions in distribution and production (I don't think Bob cam cheap), and that gives them the priviledge to market the album to the fans however they choose. Hence, olp.com is updated while the album is selling, and seldomly thereafterward until there is a new video (more marketing) and then sparingly until a new album (and then a new design).

Touring on the other hand, has more to do with OLP management side. Enter sites like olp.net and fearofthetrailerpark.com. OLP's marketing has always relied on a faux-grassroots approach. They sought out to cultivate one of those cult-like audiences that travels and follows the band.

When olp.net started up initially I tried to bring a little bit of cohesion to what I saw as a scattered gathering of fans through the CC and those offline -then there was such a thing. I tried to find a new piece of OLP news every day, something that wasn't a countdown listing - but a significant find. The trouble was, the fanbase wasn't quite as rabid post-Clumsy and pre-Happiness.

Updating wasn't the hardest part, it was finding news really that was the trouble. In this instance, Stacy and Tanya seem to be concentrating more on their fulfillment of the dream of working for olp than the tour itself. I know this sounds bitter coming from me because I'm not a part of it, but trust me (and speak with Rick Moore or juliekate to confirm), its not a bitterness thing. To be fair, they are supposed to be giving you a behind the scenes look at the tour and they are doing that. Finding access from venue to venue is also probably really difficult. I find it hard to believe though that OLP wouldn't put that in their rider though.

I think as a fan, and this might be unpopular, you should be more upset with the band than anything else. As a fan I am more interested in what Raine/Duncan and Jamie have to say seriously about the tour, than Jer and glogson's random (but charming) offering of inside jokes. There are also two other bands on this tour, we've heard nothing from.

To be honest, I think Gorilla radio from SS2K was a much better accompaniement to the tour. I wish someone had taped one of those broadcasts, they were classic!
