The whole "getting a tattoo" is the "cool" thing to do, so isn't getting a tattoo in itself unoriginal?

I can't make it any clearer .. a tattoo represents you and what you're about or past events that may mean something special to you .. like the Life tattoo idea was to me.

It's like when you buy the coolest shirt EVER and nobody else has it but you .. you're proud of that shirt, it's original, it just screams YOU, then all of a sudden you notice like 10 other people wearing that shirt .. the shirt isn't gonna means as much to you anymore. It's like that .. suddenly the tattoo just isn't special to me anymore, it's become a trend .. I don't want a tattoo of mine to be part of a trend and after seeing 2-3 youngun's running around showing off their Life tattoo it just disgusted me and the significance lost all meaning ..

Yea, I see where you're coming from. Luckily I haven't experienced that so it still has some meaning to me. Less now though

No, because most people who get tattoo's are smart enough to realize it's something they're gonna have on their body forever and they get something that's meaningful to them and has importance and significance to them .. if you get a tattoo simply because your buddy has one and you think it's cool than yeah, you're unoriginal .. if you get a tattoo you've thought long and hard about, or you drew yourself even, or the tattoo has a story attached then it's original and something you can look back on with pride ..

It's not about that .. but you're obviously missing the point even though others are understanding ... if you don't care about having a tattoo that's the same as at least 10 others (that I personally know of) that's fine .. it's not about what other people do, it's about the fact that the tattoo, something you're gonna have with you for the rest of your life isn't unique and isn't meaningful to just YOU anymore ..

our lady peace's music is meaningful to a LOT of people. it's still just as meaningful to me.

so a tattoo, if it has meaning to you, should still be meaningful even if it has meaning to someone else. or even if they have the tattoo and it doesn't have mean, it's just cool.

a lot of people like olp but the music doesn't mean anything to them. it still has meaning to me.

No you don't .. I would never get a tattoo cuz "it's just cool" but that's just me .. I look at tattoo's as an expression, an art .. art is meant to be original and unique and to say something about the person writing it, painting it etc .. what I do and what I have tattooed on my body represents me and me only ..
