Hehe, see, I know all of that terminology, but understand very little of it. I seriously need lessons. It's the only way I'll ever learn. I can't book learn, I never have been able to. And videos are crap. Hah, the one I have spends about 5 minutes teaching you how to tune with an ELECTRONIC tuner, then proceeds to teach you like 10 chords in the next 3 minutes. It's so stupid. Even my boyfriend (who plays some guitar) watched it and went, "dude." Hah.

Thanks for the tips, though. :)

I've got through about 1-3, I think. I know all the chords, and I know how to recognize notes since guitar is in the key of C and I play flute and so is flute, so that's done. Chords like f#m make me mad, though. And I don't really need a scale book, because I already know scales from flute, and if I don't know them on guitar I can just figure them out by listening.

You know all the chords?........You know...tthats pretty damn near impossible...since there are a few thousand chords......way more if you factor in alternate tunings.....way way way more when using a capo too.
Unless you are refering to the chords I listed?

lol well of course i dont know all the chords in the world. i know the ones you listed and more. and if you give me a first note i can pick out any scale, unless you mean melodic or harmonic minor and those are a bit tougher.

SHIT
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

Harmonic and melodic scales aren't that difficult. You just have to remember which notes to raise a semi tone on the way up, and which to drop a semi tone on the way down. Don't ask me because I don't remember. I'd have to look into some of my music notes for that.

What's worse is when you have to do that in the minor.

Well Nikki.....maybe I could start a thread here on CM. Then this way other guitar players on here can add their own advice and tips. Yeah That should work

I think melodic is where you raise the 6th note up a half a step and play the same note on the descent, and harmonic is when you raise 6th and 7th, but play normally on the way back down. isnt the first chord on your little tab D?
