RAine and his stupid lyrics!!

Post by Brooklin Matt »

I have some problems with OLP's lyrics. I really hear something else compared to what is written down.

For example, in CARNIVAL, Raine is suppose to say "Once again
The carnival closed down but if this world would ever turn around"

But I hear "Once again the carnival closed down but if/in this world, whatever's your name" ??

Also for Waited I hear "Oh I must be doped up to be proud" ???

Bring Back the Sun where he sings the cryptic "little batter high" sounds more like "little by the heart" to me.

Also in BBTS, "sunny days again" is total rubbish. Its "Show me your hand again" and then "soul signed hand". Can anyone clarify these for me or at least tell me that I am half-sane. These things are driving me nuts.

Raine says it's "Living by the hour" in BBTS. I remember Gail telling us that in another thread.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Again, this is another Gail paraphrase on BBTS. The song was done in one take, sorta live, and Raine could have messed up with the lyrics and just moved on, so that could be why it sounds so jumbled up. But in concert, it definitely sounds like "Living by the hour"

i remember when raine wrote good lyrics
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

I think Raine still writes good lyrics.
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

Those two are definately the way they're written.

I hear it, but I can see how it's hard. Once someone thinks it's one thing, it's really difficult to hear it another way...

And about the "Living by the hour"/"Little batter high" thing: I think it is actually supposed to be "Living by the hour", but he messed it up. They most likely kept it like that so that it could be done in one take (which it was).

Whenever I listen to OLP in the car my mom asks me what he's saying because she can never understand him. It's embarrassing when sometimes I do not know what he IS saying. :)

:freak: that Carnival thing you mentioned really tripped me out. i can definatly see where you're comming from on that. its really "but if this world, would ever turn AEEEEEEEround..."
its weird how it can sound either way depending on what is in your mind at the time

ahhh, back from karaoke. I got weirded out singing Somewhere Out there............"it said strong out and feeling gray" I was like :wtf: but was able to muster enough composure to finish the song without exploding. Grrrrr

I keep listening to Carnival and all I can hear is if this world would ever turnaaaaeeee"..............and that's it!! My versions of "whatever's your name" rhymes with sane. I guess it makes sense..........but I must succumb and understand that those just aren't the words.

Don't say Raine doesn't write good lyrics anymore. I think it's the opposite. Now, instead of being futuristic and about robots, they're about love.... which I'd personally rather.

okay I can help you guys on two songs because I asked RAINE personally what the hell he was singing.

On Bring Back The Sun-It is LIVING BY THE HOUR

and the end of WAITED it is

I must of been BORN and knocked down, I must of been BORN.

Hope that helps.

with the end of BBTS. I know it is Sunny Days Again, but the second one isn't so clear. It is liek he sings partially and makes just a sound the second time around. Even live. But you know Raine. never one to really talk about his lyrics, that is why I was surprised he told me what he was saying.

also for the record. I love Raine's lyrics. He inspires me.

Go Out and Kill people?
what do you think. His Lyrics have inspired me to get back into my own writing. As does other songwriters.
