Heh, I've been told I look like Natalie Portman... yeah, I wish! It was really weird, though, cos the first time someone told me that, I was in high school (Star Wars was just released) sitting in my history class. My teacher was a cute older lady, probably about 65 years old. Anyway, in the middle of class, she randomly yells out, "You know what? You look like that girl in that new Star Wars movie!" I was like
... it was really funny.
I've seen Natalie Portman, actually. And all the Star Wars Episode I cast. When I took a trip to London, they had the royal premiere. It was cool. Even though I don't like Star Wars. *ducks*

Sorry to interrupt all the Hayden
talk...
Anyways, I had always known who OLP was, but I never really got into them until Life. Yeah, yeah..but I can still remember the first time I heard OMA and I loved it. I was like 13, and I was coming home from the beach with my friend and the DJ said something like "new stuff from OLP" and I was thinking, wow, that guy's got a really cool voice. Oh, and I remember my friend had a bad cold and her voice was squeaking and I kept on making fun of her saying that her voice sounded like Raine's because Superman's Dead was on the radio. Ha. Good times.
But anyways, my ex-boyfriend was in love with them, and he always used to listen to SM in his truck and that got me hooked. So, yeah..the rest is history.

Well, I keep trying to remember when I really started liking OLP... and I can't give a definite time... but here's how it goes:
I watched much all the time when I was younger, and there was all this talk about this band,
"our lady peace." I wasn't really mature enough to understand most of it during the Clumsy days, but I knew who they were b/c they were doing an I and I and I think I remember watching it. I'd always get them mixed up with mgb and I mother earth. I mean, there's way too many great Canadian bands with 3 letter abbreviations, right? Anyway, I remember seeing the video for In Repair, and I thought that the animation and concept was pretty cool. I think they were nominated for something, so they kept playing the video on much. I kind of forgot about them again unitl Life came out. I had much in my room at the time, and I kept seeing the video. That's when I really fell in love with OLP. I knew the name, but never paid attention to what they sounded like. I was going through a hard time, and the lyrics made me feel a little better. OLP was the first quality band I really got into, and let me say, it was definetly a good investment to make
. I downloaded Life two summers ago. I put off buying SM for months, and finally got the cd for christmas. I taped rby off the radio in the meantime, and eventually ended up hearing starseed, automatic flowers, 4am and is anybody home, too. ( I recognized iah as the "woo woo" song... ) . I didn't follow OLP too much, I just remember seeing Raine and Chantal talking about music without borders, and that Mike left. I was kind of on hiatus with my OLP obsession until I came back from vacation and heard SOT on the radio. I couldn't believe that a mainsteream rock station was giving them airtime, and investigated. I went on to the CC (I believe I have one post) and accidently found the CM while looking for an interview. I bought all the cds after that, and the rest is history.

I was then to be part of the mystery,
to love and be loved. Let's just hope that is enough.

I didn't find OLP until a little while after Spiritual Machines was released. My girlfriend at the time was a huge fan, but she never got me to listen to them. My friend Jared was talking about a road trip up to Canada b/c when he was going to South Dakota State, the drive wasn't that far. Then he mentioned some of his Canadian friends that go there and how one was obsessed with this band called Our Lady Peace. He played me Superman's Dead and the rest was soon to follow. Now he's like, oh my, what have I done?

I became a OLP fan in early 2001. We had just got cable for the first time in our house and one of the first videos I remember seeing on Much Music was Life. Now, I had heard of Our Lady Peace before this, but I had never heard their music and I can remember just loving everything about this one song. (If you want to know, I was basically a music shut-in before this - it was all Beatles and Barenaked Ladies until about 2000) So I bought Spritual Machines - conquincidently the last week of August of that year. When 9/11 rolled around, I can remember just how comforting it was to just turn off the TV and listen to this CD. ("Life is waiting for you/it's all messed up but we're alive...", "We're made to heal...", "Well it's good to know that you'll be OK...") And that, is how I became fan of Our Lady Peace.
How I became a hardcore OLP fan is a little easier than that - March 2002, Bayfest line up announced, had a fucking convusion, bought albums I had yet to get, got weekend pass, stared at ticket on fridge for four months, go to Bayfest, meet Raine...I'll shut up now.

NO!! we dont look alike at all. LOL! alrite, i admit just a teensy bit...
as for the question: I found OLP in late 1999 or early 2000. One of those. I can't quite remember. But my friend Summer from marching band who played the drums is Jamie's cousin... so she was talking about them and told me I'd probably like them (she actually didn't lol).

Wow this thread could be alive forever! haha
How did I find OLP? Well.....they more 'ur less found me actually. Quite honestly, I never even HEARD any of their stuff back in the days of Naveed/Clumsy but I disliked them already.
Hold on.....hear me out
See....I used to go into this chat room every now 'n then and it was always full of Canadians. OLP....OLP....I love Our Lady Peace. Soooo to stir up stuff I was say how I hated them, and I guess after I said it so much I grew to actually dislike them.
Soon after moving to NY......my fiance (who was already a fan of OLP - at one time I actually told her to please not play OLP in my car cuz Raine reminded me too much of Billy Corgan (and I do actually hate the Pumpkins)
Ooook....heres the finale of my story.
World's A Blister Tour.....early 2000 (March I believe but I would have to go find my ticket stub to make sure) St. Bonaventure College, NY. They played a show there and actually we found out only days before from a friend that we didn't even know liked Our Lady Peace. They were playing there with "Nine Days" opening for them.
My fiance was of course beYOND excited....I on the other hand, eh......but I wanted to do the "wonderful man" thing and of course go with her.
After seeing them live....that nite.....I was hooked. From that day FREAKIN on I haven't been able to get enough of them.
Thank you OLP for Happiness being such a kick ass album. Although, even though I wasn't a fan before my fiance I fell in love w/ the Naveed album before she did.
That counts for something, right?
