How could you not want to buy gravity, its a great CD. Just throw away inncocent and sot and its great. Plus i think having the live songs of older songs is a great idea, its a better way to show new olp listeners there old music and get them even more hooked.

Endymion, I respect your opinion of Gravity, but to me it seems like you spend a lot of time reminding everyone of your opinion. If I remember correctly, you said elsewhere that you didn't like it because it was an album of love songs. Perhaps you've read the analysis of Do You Like It which suggested that it didn't have to do anything with love or relationships, but was about the record industry. Raine said something along that same line in a concert back a while ago. Maybe Gravity isn't completely lyrically straightforward, and love songs. Maybe the lyrics of this album is actually more open to interpretation than OLP's older stuff.

But more on the subject, I would bet that the live songs on the special edition CD are the same as the ones on the live ep.

for those of you thinking why the record company wants olp to get a video with those "dreamy blue eyes" and shit like that its possibly because SM didn't sell so well.

i am not sick of it like a lot of the people say, its just the video portrays Raine as someone you should throw yourself at, with those 'dreamy, blue eyes' and all :(

zenithfish wrote:actually, they released a special edition of 'Spiritual Machines' as well. (i honestly own 4 copies of that album) however, the choice to release gravity with extra songs would most likely be the record companies idea, not the bands.

They did, but it was released the same day the original version was released, so u could buy either one.
For Gravity it was released later so if ur like me and bought it the first day it came out, you have to buy it again.

wouldn't it be much cooler if, instead of releasing a second gravity cd, they would release a whole new cd which was better then the first gravity cd?

that i would spend my money on. this i won't.

no matter what the lyrics are about in do you like it, they suck.

full of cliches. puppet? bite the hand that feeds? pain of yesterday? on my knees? raine is so much better than that.
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

I think sot is actually a good song. I remember thinking it was okay before the album leaked, but then I realized that maybe Mike was right for leaving because of "creative differences." But s this is the best OLP album ever, according to Raine. They're mighty happy about it, and Jeremy even said that it disappoints him that we criticize it so. But still, you never truly appreciate what you have until it's gone. I understand that all of the albums are completely different, but Gravity just seems mediocre, and not totally innovative. But whatever they want to do.

In class, we had to do lyric analysies. I did Carnival and IAH, which are written very well. I looked at what everyone else picked, and someone did Innocent. And the song came on, and the class was singing. I guess I'm proud of them, but it just blows my mind that OLP is now played on Cleveland's Hit Music Station.

It kind of worries me when they DO act all happy about it. i mean, im glad they're where they want to be and it's great that theyre making the kind of music they've supposedly always wanted to make(<--when they say that), but it scares me when i actually start to BELIEVE them! Whoever says the lyrics to Do You Like It? sucks: everybody can have their own opinion but it is the one song/lyrics that gives me hope about this NOT being OLP's "dream album" and i get kind of relieved! and then theres raine sayuing when they listen to happiness it seems like they over did osmething and im like "NO! its perfection!!!!!" and then i start thinking "maybe they didnt just make this album because they HAD to, maybe they WANTED to" and that worries me. but hey, it IS their music and they can do what they want. I think no matter what they do after this album, everybody will remain OLP fans because there are 4 albums that we still have to fall back on. I listened to Gravity a LOT when i first got it and I havent listened to it in a while---i actually only listen to stroy about a girl and BBTS now. But I still listen to all the others---even having heard them a million times already! Its impossible to get sick of those songs! anyway,s o its up to them inthe end and if Gravity makes them happy, then im happy for them. regardless, i think they need to stop agreeing to this other shit, like the "special edition" gravity! call me crazy, but as far as i know, the record company cant just go around putting your music out iwthoput permission? the fact that they weren't int he video for "in repair"w as awesome---and who would have thought it at that time, but i definitely see the value in it now. that was a time when people drooling over raine was considered BAD, but now it seems like they're(maybe not the band themselves, but SOMEBODY!) is cashing in on it. let's try to quote duncan here as best as we can(why am i speaking in the plural form??) "not that there's anything wrong with being a twelve year old girl, but they will always think the song is about relationships, and anything that is detrimental to the music is bad"(talking about raine being a goodlooking guy)<---maybe he said "fourteen", not "twelve", but its something to that effect. he needs to go tell that to whoever is destroying OLP!

Sorry, I think you're missing the point of it. Given the meaning of Do You Like It?, clichés seem to fit well. That's what I think, anyway.

I have nothing against love songs, actually, to respond to an earlier, unquoted post. Umm, Do You Like It? is kind of fine in that "haha, this drips irony" kind of way. I don't like it aside from that, as anything more than any other song I'd hear on the radio.

I enjoy Sorry and Bring Back the Sun, quite a bit.

And I like All For You because it started off some great concerts and it's a great song period, albeit not OLP-great.

But other than that, it's pretty mediocre. My first impression of the CD when it was leaked was that it's VERY radio-friendly. I didn't have a problem with it until it really sunk in that that's a bad thing for OLP, that it's tapping into a strength that's fine for other bands, but not for a band that's as experimental and different as OLP is. It's sort of like if Radiohead were to go back to Pablo Honey. It's fine for a new band because it sounds raw. Under a more mature band, it just sounds polished dry.

I'm sure I'd love Gravity had four absolutely brilliant albums not come out before it, but I can't help but feel like we've lost a band that could've probably made a lot more absolutely beautiful music, had they felt like it.
