if you think about it, clumsy is one of the most important records in the history of canadian music and represents in itself, an era of canadian music that was far and above the rest of it's contemporaries. it was an epochal album. none of their other records will sell that many copies in canada.
Word.
Clumsy basically defines Canadian Music at that particular moment in time. I dont think they could ever surpass what a masterpiece it really was. It is, and always will be my favourite album of all time, by any band. ever

I can still pop it in and get chills.
Sorry, Clumsy gets me all lathargic. It's just that good.
Ya, I wouldn't be surprised if Gravity did better than it in the states though..wouldn't it be weird to see OLP nominated for a grammy/MTV music award/whatever it is...I always used to watch those and think about how they sucked cause they had no real canadian music represented..hmmm

You wouldnt believe.

It's not like it used to be, though. I mean, in '97 and '98 OLP's popularity was at almost epidemic proportions. Everyone and their mammas thought they were the cat's pyjamas.

Hmm.. I didn't know about BNL. But i'm positive about the HIP. I remember a couple of years back when the Matt Good talked about how he thought that Columbia had bought records of Clumsy to push it to diamond, that article stated that the HIP and OLP were the only Canadian Bands to break Diamond status.
OLP's popularity in Canada isn't as big in the Clumsy (seriously... what an album) days though. Partially due to the falling out of "grunge-rock", and OLP's change in sound. I remember when they came to Calgary in 98, they sold out the Saddledome in 30 minutes. When they came back in 00, they didn't even sell it out.
I've always thought that it was the time between Clumsy and Happiness... that did them in. 2 and a half years is a long time to be gone from the spotlight...... Although OMA was a kickass lead single.. so i'm prolly wrong!!
They're still a household name up here though. Although they're probably the 3rd most popular rock band now.. with NickelBack (not as bad as everyone says imo..) and Sum 41 ahead...... what a sad state in Canadian Music... especially with bands like Moist, Econoline Crush and other canadian bands falling apart.

They finally have OLP at platinum this month on CRIA..............but WTF?? Anne Murray also reached platinum too, but Gravity has been out for 10 weeks longer and Anne Murray hasn't even broken the top 10. Am I retarded, or does CRIA seem pretty friggin lazy. I just wonder how long gravity has actually been platinum for, and i think it should be closing on double platinum sooner or later. If anybody can actually find out the exact number sold I would give them a damn medal..........

I think if the boys can get back into the clumsy style for there next cd's, you will see fan base of old. Not knocking gravity sm or happiness, but all of them really lack a rock feel, of course not including IAH, Not enough, All for you. I think with All for you and Not enough, if they managed to get these songs out, there popularity would vastly increase. They wonder why there succes in Europe is poor, well its because England and germany are heavt rock/metal. Not enough and all for you if released in europe would boom record sales. I think putting Innocent a single really shot them down, the CD mainstream wise really could have done better with All for you, or Not enough with SOT. Believe me as big as an olp fan iam, if Gravity sounded all like innocent i would have not bought it, or even made an attempt to. I respect there views that they dont want to make a second Naveed or a second clumsy, and although each and every one of there cd's sounds are different then manage to kick ass. If olp really wants to get huge then at this point of time a clumsy/naveed sound would really do much for them.

Yeah I got the sales figured out........I was thinking of more Hard data (like actual numbers) and would like a website that has these numbers. Maybe Sony knows exactly??? I bet my ass they do!! Time to engage in borderline harassment.
When a CD falls to 20th or 30th place how many CD's are being sold a week. I am not sure how the drop off works. Bah, sorry about my questions.....just thinking out loud.

I always thought England would be more on electronic/synthetic/atmospheric sound.
Or is that Icelandic music.
But I thought (sadly) Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill was one of the top 10 selling albums worldwide, that album must have made diamond in Canada.

Somebody mentioned about how Innocent isnt doing much for them in canada---then someboyd replied it IS in america, but.....I see Innocent on M2(mostly on control freak) and RARELY on MMUSA(damn them! i want candian much back!!!) Infact, MMUSA plays SOT more than Innocent. Im yet to hear Innocent on the radio. SOT was huge and Innocent is...well...bleh! I personally don't think Innocent is doing well at all. But I can only judge but what I hear on NY radio stations and television...who knows hwats going on in other parts of the ocuntry...
I do thin All For You would bring them MASSIVE success---even more so than SOT did. Who is picking their singles?!? Innocent is like a sarah maclachlan song---what is it called? adia? "and we are all....innocent..." i love OLP, but ihave to agree with whoever said if all of gravity osunded like innocent, i owuld not have bought it---well---actually, i owuld have because im just obsessive like that, but i owuldnt listen to it. The first two isngles, in my opinion, are quite possibly the worst OLP songs ever. there are perfectly good osngs on gravity----why SOT?!? and GODDDDDD, WHY INNOCENT!!!!???!!!

To be honest, i'm quite surprised by the lack of success Innocent has had. I thought that Pop radio would be all over this song.
It looks like Pop radio didn't like the hook, and Rock Radio didn't like it because of the poppy chorus.... Go figure.
I think All For You is the way to go with the next single. OLP hasn't released a real "rock" record since OMA... well Mafia was a single but it didn't get support...
All For You is a massive hit waiting to happen i think.
