Exactly.....Alex (?) I've been depressed before, as in as everything bad is happening, life sucks, type of thing. When 100 bad things happen at once it is overwhelming, and hard to just spring back up and be happy. However, it is possible.
Clinical chemical imbalance depression is different. They are confused far too often, leading to a lot of unecessary chemical dependencies. I don't have a psychiatrist/psychologist, but I'm going to hopefully become one. I think that if everyone in the world had someone that they could just talk to, complain to, and generally bitch at, they might feel better.
Like Doug said......there is one thing that has helped me not be depressed. Well, two, perspective, and OLP. Relating to one another. I can listen to an OLP cd, and be happy. Thats it, even if it lasts for ONE second, I have something that guarentees me happiness. How many people can be that lucky? That is the greatest thing in the world, and with that, it's easier to not be depressed.
Find something like that in your life. What makes you happy no matter what? What gives you hope? What do you look forward to? Unless you live in a place with no food, health care, shelter, or clean water, I'm sure there is one thing in your life like that. Focus on it, focus on the feeling it gives you, and remember how lucky you are to have it.
Sappy speech over.

hah... OLP made me more depressed when I was going through my bad stage. I really don't think of them as "pick me up" music, especially Naveed, which is what I listened to the most.

my girlfriend is clinically depressed. she takes prozac and she's fine. even she doesn't piss and moan like kids who aren't clinically depressed.
but i agree. too many emo kids out there. it's your life. be happy. if you're sad it's because you want to be. snap out of it. and i'm not just spouting off. i've been there. my friends used to say i was manic depressive and bipolar. but over the summer i had an eye opening experience. and i've been happy for 5 months straight. i don't need a girlfriend to be happy. i've got all that i need to make myself happy being alone. i'm just trying to make the world happier. i know it wasn't fun when i wasn't happy so i don't want other people to have to go throught that.
cheer up!

we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

I find that extremely offensive. Fuck you. Don't trivialize a really hard part of my life.

I don't think he was. I think Jeff just meant that a lot of people are depressed just to be depressed. Not because they have a reason, not because they have a physical problem. I know people like that, and I think that people like that trivialize depression for those who actually have it. There are people that have nothing wrong with them chemically, and have great lives with a lot to be thankful for. When people like that go around bitching that some tiny stupid little thing in their perfect lives messed up for once and they don't know how to see past it........thats when the actual problem of depression gets slighted.
As for OLP......its not really "pick me up music". I guess that I just love them more than a lot of things. When I listen to them, the actual meaning of the songs doesn't necessarily make me happy, the entire amazingness that they possess does. "let him die if he wants to, die if he wants to" doesn't make me jump up and go HELL YES! However, when I hear that bass intro, or think of Duncan with one foot on the speaker playing it live, and hear the way the music just makes that.........net or something that surrounds you. That makes me happy.
