Raine's distorted microphone

Post by Odin »

After attending the London show on Sunday, the one thing I really noticed was Raine stopped using the distorted mic thing (of whatever it's suppose to be called), I'm not sure if it's only for that show or what. In the past, he would use if for the "you you you you" part of Right Behind You, "Come come Naveed, come come Naveed" part of Naveed and various other moments. What does everyone think of this, is it better or worse now?

I would say right now without it, it gives a more mature sound, but it took away some of the uniqueness from the live shows.

I loved the distortion, and although the new intro to Naveed is cool now, I liked the "distorted" version better where he sings about "old man back of the door" or whatever it was. Also MOY sounded awesome live with it...I wish they put that song back in the setlist.

definitely miss the distorted microphone thing... it did add a different flavor to the songs and it was sooo cool to see raine add his little spasms to his distortion prop .... :D

Raine should bring back the mic. I've only seen him use it once, and it was probably their best show I have seen.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

It was awesome to see a show with the distorded mic but he stopped using it after the SM tour.......i guess because of the "rebirth" of the band and trying to go with a more simple sound.......but i too loved the "old man at the back of the door" intro to naveed and wish MOY was still in their setlist.
Is there something good, something more?
Is there anything worth dying for?

They have the two best SM songs on their tour already, and if they bring back If You Believe, then their shows would be complete. I mean, they've added In Repair for Christ's sake, how awesome is that?

i have heard are you sad at all the shows i could use a switch to thief instead. That mic thing was amazing and when I saw the second show and he didnt use it I was very upset. We need a petition to bring the distorted microphone!

I miss the Spiritual Machines days. Middle of Yesterday > Mafia > Automatic Flowers is such a good opening.

All For You > Do You Like It > Superman's Dead is alright, but doesn't work nearly as much for me. The energy isn't the same.

^ Yeah, I feel the same way. Well, the last time I saw them they did play Automatic Flowers, and they always play Mafia, so who knows, maybe they'll add Middle of Yesterday and just like make it a three song bridge somewhere in the middle of the set. That would be great.

i LOVE that distorted mic thing. i downloaded snow job 2001 and thats teh only time ive seen him use it, but it sounded AWESOME! and i llllove that intro to naveed! i wish he would start doing that again!!!!!!!!! they should never take naveed out of their setlist...its one of teh best OLP songs ever. i hope they add julia as well. and MOY---especially with that mic thing. and hehehe, i agree with whoever said it would be fun to see raine going into his little spasms on that rather than the mic!

You know i loved ythe OLD mand thing, but I love how Naveed is done now. Sort of back to the old way they did it where it was a long music intro.Naveed is one song that OLP have changed everytime they do it live. It is a great live song. I love how they are doing it now with the bass and guitar. Like before the SM tour. Sometimes they even had the intro be the guitar. anyway that is my opinion on the song.

the two shows i seen in North/South Carolina this year i believe he used the "oldman/young man" intro to Naveed.... but i could be mistaken, since i was in total OLP bliss, i might have imagined it :)

here is what i think the lyrics are to that opening mentioned above.... if anyone has them for sure, maybe you could post them :)

"there's a young man at the back of the door
he says he's alright but he still wants more
and there's and old man at the side of the house
he says he's ok, ok, ok"

he usually repeats it twice
