Ok I'm in Ohio and it's a normal winter with the temperature in the single digits.
This happens every winter, it's Ohio we're far away form the Equator, it gets cold during winter.
Yet the news has to re-iterate this fact.
Why is the cold weather so news worthy??
Yes it's cold out, why do we need the news anchors to make this the top story? Hwy do we need to profile people having problems starting their car? why do we need to profile people complaing about how cold it is.
If 8th grade science has tought me anything it's that it's much much colder the furhter north you get.
So my question for the Canadian members of the board is if cold weather makes headlines on your news as well?
I just don't comprehend why it's so newsworthy here all the fricken time.

In saskatchewan you'd have to hit about -60 C (with windchill) for it to make anything more than the weather report. Infact it was -35 yesterday and no one batted an eye.

One of the many reasons I'd rather be in Canada.
Yet the biggest deterent ironically happens to be the cold

You only have to deal with the weather if you go outside.

Yesterday it snowed for like 8 hours and then it went to like 10 degrees and melted all the snow. That was fun. In the morning all these schools wanted to close because we had a wind warning, and then in the afternoon there were people walking their dogs in shorts.

Close because of a wind warning? That doesnt make any sense at all!

There was a wind warning and it was snowing too. Not a lot of snow fell on the ground.

So as soon as they plowed a street it was covered again. And visibility was down. So driving was horrible. Going outside at all was not pleasent either because snow was being whipped at your face.
But by 4 it was like a cool autum day.

Ohh.. well in saskatchewan there is no such thing as a "snow day."

We had to add a couple of days to the end of the school year because snow days were practically guaranteed and we were missing so much school.

Guys
It was -37 this morning when I was walking to class
In the 10 minutes it took me to scurry to campus:
-my scarf froze to my face (i had to peel it off)
-my jacket's outer layer froze solid and started making crinkly noises
-my eyelashes froze shut
-my nostrils froze shut
-my lungs froze shut
