'buy nothing day' would never work anyhow, because you still need stuff, like drinks and food and everyone who does take part of that day would just buy it in advance, so in the end it doesn't make any difference. I surely won't be taking part, because I'm going to Germany for the weekend that day and I'm not going to make that on one full tank of gas, damn those tiny japanese cars.

I honestly think that whether you buy shit or not, it is going to have very little impact. The fact that they are organizing this nationally is enough to make a point. It doesn't really matter if its sucuessful or not. Personally, I think its a little stupid but there no one is going to start a "Shop on Nov. 28th day".
It would be funny, but just as pointless.

The point isnt to stop commerce on that day or anything, it's to make you think. Do you really need to buy things everyday? Why do we feel the need to buy so many things that we really dont need? Its about consumer awareness and refusing to be sucked in by advertising. Am I the only one that thinks it's kind of sad that we cant handle ONE DAY without shopping?

I am taking part in this, and I encourage you to do the same, but whatever, it's your choice. :uh:

See, if you live in the Detroit area, I encourage you to go to Best Buy and buy lots of shit, but from me, so I make money and guarantees my spot as a full time employee.

haha, yeah, thats awesome man.

^I'm guessing because its the day after thanksgiving and everything is cheap? That's why they have it on that day. If it was based in Canada, it would be boxing day.

The link doug posted says:

From February 23 through March 2, the Organic Consumer's Association will be holding demonstrations outside Starbucks locations in over 300 cities to protest the company's use of genetically-improved foods and its supposedly unfair trade policies. This is basically just an attack on capitalism and business by a bunch of misinformed students and activists who believe that the world's problems stem from free trade and scientific progress.

Thanks, buddy. So now people are just 'misinformed' if they choose to question the policies of Starbucks? So our concerns are simply dismissed because, QUITE obviously, we are simply just students, and therefore dont matter? If we disagree with GMF because of possible risks, we just must be hippies? I see...

As you all know, this is coming up tommorow. I encourage you all to see if you actually can go the entire day without buying a single thing. Good luck, and thank you for keeping an open mind :)
