philosophy time, yo

I think a thread for writing philosophy and discussing philosophical issues would be cool, so here it is. I'm going to make a short and slightly pointless rant now and you peeps can either comment on it (please discuss, not flame :) ) or post your own different thoughts or propose debates, whatever.

---

The way I see it, human society is essentially an enormous, long perpetuated sort of game - especially where money is concerned - that has evolved around the best ways we've found to exist together. Unfortunately, people do not think this way and see society as life, life as society; society becomes a cage, opressive.

Now, my point of view is that this cage is ethereal, it has no hold on you that you don't give it. You can, if so incline, "unplug" from this game and live outside of it, without it. Only, doing so means you have to fend for yourself as an animal of sorts, not something most people see as a viable sort of life.

My point is (putting aside issues of determinism) people possess more freedom than society makes them think they do. This may seem obvious to some, or absurd to others, but when I thought about it a great fog lifted from my mind, simple as it was.

Hm. Not as great a rant as it was in my head. Lets see some better ones!

haha, probably a good thing.

if you'd actually understood his rant, you'd have realized that politics are just a stupid game. Admittedly, a game you may decide you have to play (so why not play it well?), but nonetheless, it's pointless and not only that, there's NEVER a winner.

i like this post.

i would agree that people possess more freedom then they think, and that society/figures in society put there by the state do not have the power to grant that freedom, only to attempt to take it away.

man is a free being by nature. all the supposed freedoms granted to him (ie speech, religion, association) by the soldier are his by nature and right. those freedoms are not for any governing body or society to give. conservative/war advocates love to say "the soldier defends your freedom" and i say to them "defends it from whom?" the answer is: the soldier.

i'm getting off topic. the point i'm trying to make is, men are free. i agree that figures in our society go to great lengths to prevent us from realizing this, and i also agree that you can unplug yourself (if that was a Matrix reference, nice!) from the illusion and recognize the object fact of your nature - that you are meant to be free.

now it's only a matter of removing the obstacles.

what's the point to life? unknown. so can we discover it? unknown. can we try? yes. finding the point becomes the point. that's philosophy.
