Anyone else buy their CD at the OLP concerts? I was pretty impressed by Joel's guitarwork at the pre-show so I decided I'd check them out. At first I was kinda taken aback cause the music seemed a lot more mellow than what Joel was playing but now that I've taken it for a few spins I'm just blown back by how good it is. It is some very good, definately quality music. Kind of reminds me of Radiohead except maybe more concrete and less abstract in their ideas than Radiohead.
If they come out with a full-length album I'll definately be one of the first to buy it.
So... thoughts?

I'm sure we already have a Pedestrian thread around here somewhere.

Wow... maybe not. That's weird.
I happily bought the EP... I had already checked out and fallen in love with the music before seeing Joel's set in Philly, thanks to him crypically telling me the URL of Pedestrian's website in NYC.
I think a full-length album will be coming out sometime very soon... it's listed on their French website... hang on, I'll find it. It'll be called "Ghostly Life", and it's release year is listed as "2005".
Here's the tracklisting:
1. The abundance of
2. Hummingbird on a wire
3. Overwhelmed
4. Playing god
5. Headwreck
6. Brain on a stick
7. Garden fool
8. Big stare
9. Dosify
10. Ghostly life
11. Come down after
12. Derailed
*can't wait*
Oh, and if anyone reads French...
http://pedestrian.free.fr/... maybe you can get more out of the site than I can.

Nikki's french isn't even good enough to tell the difference between 2005 and 2006
"Prochain album "Ghostly Life" - début 2006"
hmmm ... it says that Pedestrian opened for Avril Lavigne on her 2003 European tour :O also that they're hoping to come to Europe eventually

When my brother first heard pedestrian, he thought Joel sounded like a mix between Thom Yorke and Raine Maida. After a couple more listens, I began to agree with him. I wouldn't say that Pedestrian is musically similar to Radiohead, but there's a similar energy they both have in their music.

Hahhhaha, I guess they pushed it back... I read the date on the album info page dealy, not in the news.

Wait, what? But... OLP... did she tour Europe twice in 2003?
I can't imagine Avril fans being too into Pedestrian.

How on earth did they land that gig? They're unsigned... that's... I'm confused.

Maybe I just read it wrong, it def. said something about being in Europe with Alanis in 1995 and with Avril in 2003.

I told Joel he reminded me a little bit of Radiohead. He took it as a compliment.. It appears I am not the only one who thinks this.

Since this thread hasn't been updated in forever...
REVIVE!
Nikki got me to check out some tunes on myspace, then I downloaded the electric album from her. After one listen I went online and ordered the CD.
I'm absolutely in love with Dosify.
Go here:
http://pedestrianmusic.org/html/media/ and watch the first Dosify video. It's just Joel and an acoustic guitar, and it's amazing.

From their MySpace
IF RADIOHEAD CRASHED INTO DAVID BOWIE WHILE PETER GABRIEL WAS HANGING OUT WITH THE FINN BROTHERS LISTENING TO THE BEATLES AT THE TIME WHEN THE BEATLES WERE LISTENING TO HENDRIX AND ERIC CLAPTON WAS STILL COOL AND LED ZEPPELIN HAD CHALLENGED PINK FLOYD TO A DUEL BUT THEY ONLY HAD ACOUSTIC GUITARS AND U2 WERE LISTENING
I guess that describes them, eh?

I was saying on the hub that there's one live video - for Overwhelmed, I believe, in which Joel starts the song by playing around with some effects and feedback until he gets the pattern that he wants. Then he sets it on a loop (LIVE), and then plays overtop of himself.
That was awesome.

Yeah, I watched that one a loooong time ago. I remember thinking that was so freaking cool.

After watching it again, I see that he's using an Ebow (what Steve used live on Starseed? for a while) and a slide to create the effect.

What is an Ebow and what does it do?
Btw I just watched some of Nikki's pedestrian videos from her digital camera and I love the song Joel did with Duncan and Jeremy.

it's like a bow (think violin) for guitar, in that you slide it on the strings. that's all i know.

That's cool, I've never heard of that before.

Nope.
It's this:
http://www.ebow.com/ebow/graphics/bow10.jpg
"Welcome to the world of Direct String Synthesisœ. The principle is simple: a focused feedback loop directed at a single string. This produces a powerful, infinite sustain, rich in harmonics for incredible guitar sounds. It's like amplifier feedback with greater control and predictability, at any volume, even through headphones. This handheld synthesizer provides an amazing variety of textures and tonal slurs — virtually an instrument in itself!"
