That does sound good, but I prefer a top four of Smith-Philips, Volchenkov-Mezzaros. :p

Or imagine this big line: Alfredsson, Heatley, Spezza, Smith, Philips. :love

i dunno what i'd do if it was murray in the offseason this year
too many holes to fill on d (3 at least) and not a terrible amount of money to go around
plus theres the whole goaltender mess

the habs on the other hand.. cristo huet is gone fo sho'
mark streit debatable
then theres the kids to resign
beyond that everyone of any value is back and we have some 6-7 mil (conservative estimate) to throw at a UFA or whatev
go fuck yourself.

I think he's frustrated and desperate.

He's made too many bone-headed moves in these last two years for me to like him anymore.

if it werent for the picks i'd like the penner move (that and injuries really hurt the team this year)
i also like the pitkanen trade cause joni has serious talent, although gilbert may make him expendable (along with a rehabbed souray) which means they could trade pit for a guy like mike cammeleri over in LA who's a big time scorer (toss him on hemmer's wing and look out)
add in the very deep prospect pool the oil have and the young guys they already have w/ guys like gagner and cogliano and they have a very bright future
really the most ideal situation would be for them to dump rollie on someone, somehow and use the freed up cash to see what happens
go fuck yourself.

Reasons why I don't like him:

-He blew the Pronger trade, big time. The team got the shaft in the deal because I don't believe that Lupul, Smid and a pick were worth trading Prongs. Lowe should've shopped him around the league until he found a better deal. Or he could've kept him, despite what ever family reasons Prongs was whining about.

- Sykora and Laroque. Both stated that they wanted to play here and both were traded. George is especially dedicated to the city since he lives here and it was un-wise to ship him out.

-Ryan Smyth- I agree thats he's not worth 6.25 Mill a year, but when you refuse to pay your all-star an extra 100k a year, that gives the managment a very negative image thoughout the rest of the league. Why would top tiered UFA's sign here when crap like that happens?

My last two points negatively effect the management's image, which in turns hurts the team chances of getting some top talent by the trade deadline and in the off season. It happened that last year and it may happen again this year.

the whole smyth thing was just fucked up in the end.. i think even if he did raise the offer to whatever meehan and smyth wanted he wouldve probably still said no out of spite in all honesty.. that and if he did raise the offer it makes him as a GM look like he has no backbone and shit and thats not good either, plus.. like.. k-lowe never backed down from a fight as a player, he isnt going to as a gm.

laraque and skyora wanted more money then they were deemed to be worth by the team and thats why they were let go.

he pretty well had no leeway or choice in the pronger deal

2 first round picks + lupul (who was coming off a 30 some goal season + had talent + a local edmonton kid and could conceivably become a 50 goal scorer in the league) + smid who has top 4 talent is a very decent offer (and probably the best offer) that lowe wouldve got given the circumstances.

i mean, no one was going to trade too much of value for the guy (given he had to trade him) and i guarantee you'd rather want smid, lupul and the picks vs a whining star playing like shit so he forces your hand to trade you.. i mean, look at what the raptors got for vince carter (shit all, seriously) or the philly eagles got for TO (nothing) or the oakland raiders for randy moss (a 5th round pick or some crap like that)

even in hockey, joe thornton was traded for brad stuart, wayne primeau and ummm i marco sturm.. who did they get for a 1st overall draft pick and one of the leagues BEST players? draft picks? 0. prospects? 0. 3 decent players but thats it.
roberto luongo + richard krajicek + draft pick (i think) for todd bertuzzi, bryan allen and alex auld.... also bad. the oil had their hands tied and teams knew it. that offer is the only thing they could get and they took it. i dont blame lowe. at all heh.. if anything tho i wouldve personally went for getzlaf and smid and 1 pick or even getzlaf and smid and thats it but thats because getz is awesome haha
go fuck yourself.

Dang

First Columbus shuts out the Wings, then they knock off Ottawa in the shootout.

With that kinda attitude they just might make the playoffs yet.

We'll see what March has to offer.
