With the NHL high school. As much as I love pittsburgh... there's no reason why high ankle sprains cause tears and resting for over 2 months. on top of kennedy with mono. roberts with a broken leg. oh god. i could go on. my team needs to grow some manliness

high ankle sprains are the worst type of sprain of the ankle
the ankle is paramount for pushing off (especially the higher parts and not just on ice) hence sid resting.. hell high ankle sprains also effect athletes in other sports (ie. football, a high ankle sprain to a running back or qb depending on the severity can result in significant time off)

personally i wouldnt doubt sid's toughness given the kids been playing against guys older, bigger, stronger than him since he was 7 or 8 or something like that

i'm not talking so much about sid, but more with Fleury... I love sid's determination, and i think that at this point in time its not worth the health risk to play him. There's always another season. I'm just talking about the ability of my team to miraculously have so many injured and sick at the same time.

haha i forgot about fleury's injury although i'd have to think an ankle injury to a goalie who plays butterfly would be worse.

then again i havent seen MA play in ages (or any hockey at all since the cup finals save some highlights a month or so ago and some random youtube vids) so i cant actually remember what style he plays but yeah.. on top of that, goalies are odd creatures. patrick roy only ate spaghetti in a certain way and a specific recipe before every game. he talked to his posts constantly, etc etc so theres a lot of superstitions and what not + they be fickle haha

as for the whole injury thing.. years ago, at one point montreal had their captain out with cancer, their leading scorer had some guy skate over his arm (when they were playing well despite koivu being out), lost one of their top 4 d-men, then lost their starting goaltender for a bit and then someone else and yeah.. i think that year they set the record for man-games lost to injury (which has since been broken mind you)

im fairly sure the canucks d alone broke it this year haha, salo, ohlund, mitchell and bieksa have all been injured at one point or another.. their top 4 consists of ohlund, mitchell, salo and bieksa with their bottom 2 being miller (#6 on the depth chart) and krajicek (who's also been injured)

bahahaha
so 2 habs got arrested sunday night after the rookie's dinner
one, ryan o'byrne (rooke) got arrested for theft of a purse and cell phone (which appears to have been part of some sorta initiation prank gone wrong) the lady in question who's purse was stolen has decided to not press charges

the other guy, tom kostopolous was arrested for "resisting arrest without violence" which is just funny.. tom kostopolous always gets in fights defending his teammates and pretty well ALWAYS loses

So I run home to catch the Wings game on TV since their playing the Jackets.

I was so looking forward to watchign the game in all it's surround sound glory instead of a 32k internet radio stream.

You know all those crisp skating sounds, bodies getting cruched up against the glass, the click click click sounds of the puck on the stick.

But no the audio jsut sounds like their tearing sheets of paper on the ice and the annoucers are all distorted.

FSN OHio FTL :(

Not to mention the Wings are in a funk right now and loosing 0-4. Blah.

I guess this gives us an excuse to get Howard some playing time.

So Jimmy Howard looked pretty good in goal for the Wings today.

Unfortunatley no one showed up for the whole offensive scoring threat thing.

on the flip side.. the habs are now tied for 1st in the east (and tied for 3rd overall in the nhl) so much for a team predicted to finish LAST in the NE (hey, hows the weather down there leafs) and in the range of 20-30 in the NHL (although i'd LOVE to get steve stamkos in that lineup but i guess i'll just have to settle with being good )

btw. im also glad to see philly and its 8 million dollar midget coupled with the goon squad doing so well on their current streak of awesomeness (7 losses? no 8? i forget.. too many to count )

and finally.. bob gainey + trevor timmins = win

Some thigns never change ...

Defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom suffered what Red Wings officials are calling a knee injury after being hit in the first period of Monday night's game by Colorado's Ian Laperriere. Wings spokesman John Hahn said that the team doesn't believe that the injury isn't "too serious" and that he's being held out of the remainder of the game as a precaution.

Aaron Downey instigated a fight with Laperriere shortly thereafter and pummelled him to the ice. Downey received an instigator penalty, fighting major and misconduct on the play. Downey leveled Laperriere again in the third period.

Lidstrom also appeared woozy on the play after being struck with a forearm in the chin/throat area and was immediately tended to by trainer Piet Van Zant. Lidstrom passed concussion tests with flying colors in the lockerroom.

Wings officials also added that Lidstrom actually wanted to return to the game, hopefully dispelling fears of a major injury.
