I was working in the fitting rooms, and a woman comes in with her two daughters. I would estimate that the girls were 3 and 5.
I'm not sure what happened, but the mom all of a sudden said to her 3-year-old daughter "You fucking disgust me, I'm going to beat you so hard when we get home". And by the tone of her voice I believed her threats. And the little girl started crying so silently, it wasn't a loud kid cry. And the mother went "Oh please" and rolled her eyes at her daughter. I made sure to not help that woman out at all. No 3-year-old deserves to be talked to like that. My heart went out to that girl.

did you tell your manager or anything? something like that hasn't happened at my store. i wouldn't really know what to do if it did happen though. do you confront the parent? or do you just ignore it?

If I were anywhere but at work, I would have confronted the parent. I didn't want to cause a scene in the store, and because I am at work, I need to act professional. I felt so bad though....I mean what would you do in my situation? I think its kind of a tough call.

yea, i think i would ask my manager. but knowing him, he would choose to ignore it. or say the kid probably deserved it.

Yeah same with mine, well....i think they would care, but they care alot more about the image of the store, and that would cause a ruckus if I confronted :(

I probably just would have been really rude to her, and she probably would have no idea that I had heard her. If I wasn't working, I probably would have said, "anyone who speaks to their children like that fucking disgusts me". That is just said, people like that shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.

hmm.. if you put her on the spot and embarass her, she's just gonna get pissed off and have something else to take out on her kids.

I'd say if there's anything you could do about it, get her license plate number and report her to the police or some protection agency.... But then, that has it's downsides too.

:( it's horrible from any angle.

Many, many, many people should never have kids.

well, yeah if you could of gotten her licence plate number than you should of call children's aid. even if it turns out the mother isn't abusing her child (which in this cause it sounds like she is) they'll just investigate and the whole things anonymous. it's always better to report it than to not.

Yeah, never confront them if you have a manager to fall back on. I would rather one of my employees have me rip a customers face off and get in trouble than them. Shitty parents piss me off too. :(

if i saw a man abusing or threatening a child, the store would become a boxing ring and i'd kick some ass no matter what size the fucker was

actually she said she was going to beat her so hard when she gets home, that's a threat at least.

that's so fucking sad though, i would have yelled at her and called an agency or two.

Sometimes the verbal abuse is just as harsh as the physical. Either way, it demoralizes a child.
