laurel wrote:she definitely wasn't 'unable' to get out of the marriage as you said. her being afraid of him, being pregnant with his kid, and feeling trapped? that's a HUGE sign to get your ass out of there, and as fast as possible. those things should make her get her ass in gear. a strong person would be able to do that. she obviously had support from her friends...making it that much easier.

I disagree.
(I deleted my last remark because I was corrected)

I lost a friend to an abusive partner, he stabbed her to death. She was going to leave him. I don't think it's always possible to get away from someone like that. I think she was trying her best but her plans kept getting spoiled.

The thing is though, that the characters are too stupid to be believable.

Annie mentioned how she did try to get out of the relationship. That's crap. The guy works too. She could easily have left any of the times when he'd been at work for an hour or two, instead of when he's home. She tried to leave at a dumb time and got caught, so she pretty much was trying to get caught. Why not just try to leave during the middle of dinner? Hell, put your suitcase on the table, I'm sure you'd have just as good of a chance!

Also, megan as you say, you don't think it's always possible to get away from someone like that, well in real life, you're totally right, but in the movie the way she gets away from the guy is to have him escorted out of the hospital when she has her baby... I'm sorry, but first of all that's not going to keep this psycho away. Not only that, but now you get to see how dumb Keri Russell's character is. Why? Because if she wanted to get away from this psycho husband, staying in town and setting up a new pie shop in the same community and location is about as dumb as you can get. She didn't move away with her kid, she stayed right there... Genius move. A restraining order isn't going to keep a guy like that away. Maybe they should've listed the IQ's of all the main characters in the movie when first introducing the characters, then seeing that she's just barely above what's considered legally mentally challenged, the movie would've been more believable.
