I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's not the Pumpkins without D'Arcy.

I wanted to put this in the Broken Social Scene thread, but technically it doesn't apply.. so I'm putting it here.

metric frontwoman Emily Haines is putting out a solo album, "Knives Don't Have Your Backs", that will be out on September 26.

I'm not 100% sure I'll want Amy's album (even though I'm a fan of both Stars albums), but I know I'll want Emily's CD without even hearing anything from it.

EDIT: I probably will get Amy's album when it gets released in the U.S. though. I just went to her Myspace page and I like "Baby I" more than "Skinny Boy."

just incase anyone but me cares:

Evanescence's upcoming release, THE OPEN DOOR, will be in stores on Oct, 3. 2006!

Following the multi-platinum, worldwide success of FALLEN, THE OPEN DOOR is an ideal showcase for the band's inevitable personal and professional growth, with songs of introspection, longing, doubt, self-respect and ultimately, empowerment and anticipation.

Recorded in Los Angeles at The Record Plant with long-time friend and producer Dave Fortman, the album is defined by Amy Lee's beautiful melodies, profound lyrics, stunning vocals and poignant piano, which fuse with Terry Balsamo's urgent, yet intricate guitar playing, to form a remarkable, ethereal blend perfectly rooted in the band's rock and classical sensibilities.

Amy Lee shared some thoughts about the upcoming release:

"The making of this record has been really intense, but I've come out feeling purified. I've grown so much since 'Fallen,' and Terry is the perfect writing partner -- I feel like I've been lifted up to a whole new level of inspiration and possibilities. After all the things we've seen over the past couple of years, beautiful and tragic, in the end I'm really grateful. It has made us create music I could not be more in love with."

i've heard some of emily's solo stuff, and i didn't like it much. granted, this was before my days of BSS and Metric, so that might have something to do with it.

i wonder if i could find that demo... hmm...

Who knows what anything new will sound like though. Maybe something old did suck. That tends to happen.

I'm not sure if there was already a post about this, but Thursday's new album is out tomorrow. I'm sure a lot of you already knew that, but just wanted to throw out a reminder. I'm listening to a few of the songs now, and they're sounding pretty good.

BearShare operators to pay $30 million US to avoid piracy claims

"LOS ANGELES (AP) - The operators of the BearShare online file-sharing service have agreed to pay $30 million US to avoid potential copyright infringement lawsuits from the recording industry, according to court documents filed Thursday.

...the operators behind i2Hub and WinMX shut down. The Grokster file-sharing service, which was sued by a coalition of Hollywood film studios and recording companies in 2001, agreed last fall to pay $50 million US to settle that copyright infringement case.

The operators of four file-sharing services - Warez P2P, Limewire, eDonkey and Soulseek - have yet to shut down or settle. "

Brent left (was kicked out??) of Panic! At the Disco.

It would be sad, but no one cares about the bassist.

Unless they are sexy. And pose naked for magazine covers.
