Ideally, you would want to be directly in front of one of the speaker stacks on the left or right of the stage. However, ideally you would also have a microphone and recorder that can record at extremely high volumes without distortion - a built in mic on a minidisc won't. If the recorder has a "mic volume sensitivity" or something like that, set it to low rather than high. If it was used for recording interviews, chances are it's currently set to high and this would make a concert sound very bad. Also, if there's a "manual record volume level" option, you'll want to activate it and turn the record volume level most of the way down.

I would say, using a built in mic, you can still expect to get some distortion in the recording even after taking the steps above. To reduce the distortion, you will probably want to not get too close to the speaker stacks (this is completely opposite if you have microphones that can handle extremely loud noises). Usually, the soundboard is placed somewhere where the building's acoustics will sound the best, so I would say position yourself a little in front of the soundboard (and away from security). Keep the recorder/microphone as high on your body as you can, and point it forward.

If the audience around you is very loud during songs (between songs is okay), move forward and towards one of the of the speaker stacks on the right or left of the stage - better to get some distortion in the recording from the music, than a bunch from screaming fans. However, I'm betting the audience won't be too loud for most of this show, so sticking back near the soundboard will probably get you the best results.

If you can record the entire show (using mono mode) without stopping the recorder at all, that would be awesome. \m/

So on normal days you're inferior to him? Interesting... either that or you've terminally confused yourself on the spelling of your own name

Or, since today is opposite day, Jonhny>Jonny today (since he said it the other way around).

Unless that's what you meant, and you were aware that this is opposite day.

But then wouldn't that mean that you're unaware?

Bah!

Damn, that was one hell of a concert.

I met Raine (and Bob Rock).

Raine was very nice- he talked about the new album (which he is very excited about) and I also got a picture with him (which Bob took). Bob also took a weird picture of Raine which I will post.

The concert was seriously amazing. The girl who performed before the guys was awesome. She had a nice sound- very Chantal sounding.

The show began with the Neverending White Lights on stage to perform their first song. They then brought out the lead singer from supertramp to perform a song. He sounded great and so did the song. Then Daniel Victor and the band played another song by themselves. Finger Eleven's Scott Anderson joined after that and sang a song with the guys.

The band played a couple more songs until Raine, with lyrics in hand, came out to play not one, but two songs with the guys. The songs (one of which was called Liar) were seriously unbelieveable. Raine (no questions asked) was the best performer of the night. His voice was on. He sounded the best tonight that I have heard him in quite a while. He hit a few falsettos, which were just perfect. He was very emotional in his singing, too. I cannot describe how good he sounded. If his voice tonight is like anything that will be on the album, we can all be very excited.

The band played a few more songs and then walked off stage. They came back out with Raine and Scott and did a Depeche Mode cover. It was amazing. Seeing them altogether was a pretty amazing experience!

I got to see Sab again and meet a few others (Rich and Shelley, Miro, Kruno and Stace). Jeremy and Steve were also at the show but I did not manage to bump into them :(

They sold a sampler with a few snippets of the songs from the new Neverending White Lights album. One of the songs included is "Liar" in which Raine is featured. I will try and get it around to everybody as soon as I can.

Pics to follow soon. What a great night!
