Things are very interesting in Cuba right now. This was brilliant planning by the Castros; giving Raul a chance to step in and prove the country could run without Fidel before he officially declared he would no longer be president. What I can't wait to see is whether the party elects Raul, or choses a younger man to be president next, leaving Raul to fill an advisory role.

Raul has been much more decisive than Fidel in the year he's been in charge - he's increased student wages, has asked for public input into policy, has opened up some avenues towards a freer economy - at the same time, I don't get the sense we'll be seeing a huge shift away from the communist state anytime soon. I can't wait to get down there in May to get a better feel for what's going on. It will be an instructive visit to Varona, indeed.

I would agree with Claire, that there won't be immediate change anytime soon. While Fidel is alive, I think there will be little change, and gradual change after he passes.

A NYC woman is being charged with vehicular manslaughter after stating that she was a Yankees fan and having an argument with a group of Red Sox fans. The woman plowed her car in to a 28 year old male who had stated he was a Red Sox fan. Crazy fuckers. Another reason why I think Yankees fans are nuts.

Iran decided to fire off some test missiles. Obviously they're trying to prove that they still have a big pee-pee.

Now it becomes a waiting game. George Bush is gonna scheme that Iran is causing our gas price crisis (and not the shitty value of the dollar) and try to gain support to attack them.

I don't think he'd do that. He doesn't have time to wage war in the rest of his term. Plus, at this critical stage in the war in Iraq, I doubt that Congress would let that kind of action fly.

Some of you might hear about a small plane crash in Owatonna, MN today. That's about twenty miles from me. I assume the 70+ mph wind gusts we had during this morning's storm had a lot to do with it. Very sad. 8 people died.

We need some non-downer general news here.

I read about that Neil, and I thought "Oh, I hope no one Neil knows was on that plane..." The only reason I didn't think "I hope that Neil wasn't on the plane" was because I couldn't imagine a reason you would have been on it! Heh.

Also, tonight on the highway a plane shot past at a really really low altitude, and one of its engines was smoking. It flew away from the airport, slowly gaining altitude, but eventually we lost it. I hope it didn't crash, because that was scary to see!
