Thanks! Going to Marshall in the fall. No clue what my major is gonna be yet though.

Unless you have a sweet scholarship, why go to a big school when you don't have a major picked out yet? Go to a 2 year community college and get all your BS general educational course out of the way.

College Algebra / English / Science / Accounting 101 are going to be the same no matter where you go.

Matt's right -- faster and faster.

If you'd like a word of advice, I'd suggest putting a lot of thought not into what major you want to take but what job you want to eventually have, and then once you figure that out go with the appropriate major. And look for internships or other opportunities to get experience while you're in college, because, at least in my case, a bachelor's degree wasn't enough to qualify for any job I could find.

I liked college, had a lot of fun, graduated with honors, but it's been a full 4 years since I finished and I'm still entirely convinced that it was essentially a waste of $20,000 and 3.5 years because I picked a major, but not a career. It didn't have to be, maybe it wouldn't have been if someone gave this advice to me early on or if I had been smarter, or less confident that I'd find something.

Kicker has a point, and the path I followed. I picked up a 2 year degree first, where all my courses would transfer, then moved on and picked up my BS. The other piece of advice I can give is, do not change your major several times. Colleges love it when you do this, as they can snatch up lots of monies doing this.

People go to college to figure out what they don't want to do, there are not a huge amount of people I know who are actually working at jobs that coincide with their majors.

My education gave me my business/accounting career - but I was sure I would be in the more creative marketing field but the jobs (and money) just wasn't there.

I don't understand why society tells people to go to college and get a degree when really in so many cases, what they studied and achieved in those 4 years has no significance at all, as long as they come out of it with a degree. The degree I hold in no way qualifies me for the job I have but somehow I feel I wouldn't have been interviewed if I had no degree. It's ridiculous. But no, I didn't learn what I don't want to do in college.

College didn't teach me what I don't want to do though, if I had the appropriate qualifications for a job relating to my major I would be doing that.

In the process of trying to get the Promise right now... keep missing it because while my overall is above the requirement, my score in math on the ACT is always a point or two low. But idk, guess I kinda want to get that "college experience."

I'll be honest, if you are only going to college because you want the experience, go get drunk in a bar and save the $40,000+ you'll end up paying. You don't go to college for the experience, you go for the education.

When I went to college I was told I could teach at a university with a BA. When I was done with my BA, I was told I needed an MA. By the time I was done with my MA I needed a PhD. I couldn't get into the PhD program near me so now I'm stuck in limbo. I wasted $50,000 on two degrees I can't use and my only prospect is to go back and get a degree I don't want so I can get the experience I need to get the degree I do want, or apply to colleges around the country and move to whatever area will take me. That's not something I want to do because I'm getting married and we're talking about buying a house. I can't uproot my fiance just so I can get my PhD. I'm working for the state and it's not even close to what I spent my money on a degree for.

Don't waste your time and money if you don't know what you want to do and what you need to get to do it. I have degrees and all I'm qualified for is entry level clerical work because schools don't want me without certifications and colleges won't take me without experience.
