I don't think so, though I could be wrong. But I never filed before I got the job at Kohl's and didn't get in trouble. If I do, that'd suck cos it's not free to file state and I currently have $9 in my bank account.

Gotta make that money money. I haven't downloaded my W-2 yet, so I'm not sure how much I raked in. Probably $45K. Not too shabby.

Well, it's not really to file them. It's to pay TurboTax or whomever to help fill them out with you so your head doesn't explode.

My bank's website had turbo tax on it last year, so I filed ours for the first time ever. It wasn't that bad. I was just waiting on the IRS to come crashing through the skylights at work and drag me up into the ceiling for screwing up. "YOU PUT THE WRONG NUMBER ON LINE 28! NOW YOU'RE GONNA DIE SUCKA!!!!!"

i have always done my own taxes. My father insisted that i learn when i was 15. Granted i dont have any large investments, neither am i a corporation so it is not that hard to follow the instructions. Granted I do rely on the calculator these days as I have multiplying by 13% haha.

are american taxes a lot more complicated than canadian ones? i mean i do my own taxes and it doesn't seem that difficult. mind, last years got screwed up because good ol' tim hortons filled out their end of things wrong

Yes, by reputation alone they are far more complicated.

And I think you need to fill out taxes whether you work or not. That's how the census bureau collects information or something.

Taxes here are crazy complicated. I don't know what any of it means (following instructions is not that easy for me when I don't know what means what) so my dad does them for me. I'm just not good with numbers and finances.

I hope I marry someone who knows how to do them, because I sure as hell will never learn.

i just looked at the individual tax form for the US and it is pretty much the same as here but the layout leaves something to be desired. It also seems really wordy which gets in the way of being direct and succinct.

All of this talk of taxes make me appreciate being young. That, and the fact that I don't have to buy food or clothes with my own money when we go to the city.

Depending on where you're at in life determines just how much of a bitch taxes are in the U.S.

If you're like me: single, no kids, don't own a house, and don't have any IRA's or crazy stuff like that. It's cake! Otherwise, it can start to get kinda tricky.

I didn't earn shit last year (I feel like) and I'm getting just under 800.00 back. So that's ok by me.

yeah that is what i thought. similar to in Canada, as you start to have assets and family it gets progressively more complicated and you have increasingly more forms to file.
