Some do, Fender Standard Strats start at a little ove $500. Which is a reasonable price for a very good guitar.

I've heard of people getting Squire Strats (or Squire stuff in general), and they'll replace the pick-ups, get the neck set up better, etc... and they claim that the sound quality/playability of the guitar is just as good as a Fender American Strat (and, obviously, they put a lot less money into it even with the minor fix ups). I've never done this myself, but I've heard it from several guitarists who are quite good and know their stuff about guitars.

Me? I have a Fender (Mexican made) Cyclone and am very happy with it. I also have a few acoustics, the best of which is a Tacamine (sp?). That guitar put me out almost $700 bucks, but I've had people tell me it plays like a guitar that cost more than twice the price, and I must agree!!! It doesn't have inlays on the neck, it has heavy-duty plastic tuning pegs instead of the standard metal, you know, no "bells and whistles"...but the action on it is awesome and the sound quality is amazing! I've played similar gutars (other brands) that cost as much as $1600 and thought they were crap compared to my Tac.
