Awesome news from Kanye's Twitter:
"I know yall need the music so I'm dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas. It may be my song it may be a new Jay song etc... I'm calling it good Fridays. Yall know every Friday yall gone have a new joint from our family. We look at the game completely different now It's about the fans. No more holding back. That's why I dropped see me now... It wasn't about me it was about the Summer the BBQs etc..."

Hope everyone's been checking out GOOD Fridays. These songs are sick.
Btw, the petition Lupe fans have against Atlantic Records is being taken further. Fiasco Friday is an event in October where fans are marching 3 blocks through NY and protesting in front of their building. Word got out among fans fast, and now even Lupe has agreed to come.

Lupe just released a new track called SLR, which is awesome. For anyone who hates Soulja Boy, he takes shots at him at several points in the song (I'm a pioneer, not a parody). Guess its a response to Soulja's comments recently that he wants to be a more serious lyricist, but "not super Lupe lyrical where you can't even understand what a nigga's saying."
Also in unrelated news, J. Cole is a fucking beast.

I know this thread hasn't been updated in ages but well, yeah.
I've been really into Tyler The Creator lately. I know people have a lot of mixed feelings about him. But i think he could go far if he can get past all the controversy he's started

Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
I used to detest rap/hip hop but realized until a few years ago that I only detested mainstream (mostly American) rap/hip hop. There's a ton of great underground stuff out there.
I really liked K'naan even before he blew it up with "Wavin' Flag". Not digging the overproduced More Beautiful than Silence ep but I admit there are some catchy moments. Loved his song with Nas and Damian Marley "Tribal Wars": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubssDHIGi6g
Shad is also really good. Great lyric writer. One of my favourite songs by him is "Brother Watching": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Jhn3X8gGEA
Others I listen to include:
Miles Jones
Classified
Lupe Fiasco
Talib Kweli
Sweatshop Union
k-os
The National Parcs

And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong

I've listened to a little bit of both Shad and k-os and they're not bad. Already am a fan of Talib and Lupe (although I hated Lasers).
Some newer artists I'd suggest checking out: Kendrick Lamar, Blu, Big K.R.I.T., J.Cole, Fashawn, and Jay Electronica (would keep the list going with guys like Common, Nas, etc. but I'm sure you're already aware of them).
Re: Rap/Hip-Hop?
In my opinion, other than the Beastie Boys and Outkast, rap hasn't really been good since the days of Run DMC and Public Enemy. That stuff was good. 99% of stuff post-1980s... not so much

Yeah, I heard "Lasers" was a terrible record. I don't think Lupe himself was a fan of it.
I've heard of Common and Big K.R.I.T. but haven't really listened to them. Will give them a try!
