I kept waking up during the night to see if it was snowing but every time I looked out my window (including when I got up at 8am) there wasn't anything coming down. Although I didn't have my glasses on, so I must have missed it. When I left the apartment at 8:40am, there was snow all over the place (on top of the snow that was already there), and my cousin had already brushed off my car for me and put my wipers up, only to have another half inch on top of it probably 45 minutes later. I didn't have to brush it off again though because my wipers took care of that >D
BUT when I got onto Morton Ave, which is one big downhill slope, things got rough. I stayed about 2 car lengths behind the van in front of me so that if he braked I could slow down enough not to hit him or spin out. BUT I still spun out. I wasn't even hitting my brakes hard, I just lightly braked like I'd been doing and the car did a 180. I ended up in my lane facing oncoming traffic, which thankfully stopped for me to let me back up and turn around.
Once I got onto the highway (I take I90 to work), there's a bridge I go over once I'm on I90 and then two exits, and right where the second exit's ramp ends there's another bridge. Just as I got onto that bridge, I saw a car a little ways in front of me do a 360 and slide down the hill, right after the bridge. No one else was stopping! So I stopped to make sure the driver was OK and see if she needed me to call 911 for her or anything. She looked OK, said she was OK just shaken up, and it just looked like she'd slid down. She didn't hit or break anything. She said she was just going to call AAA but that she was OK so I kept going to work. Made it there safe and sound, thank goodness.
At 6am, only a couple hours into the snow, there were already tons of cars off the road. There were more off the road on my way home, and the roads had actually been cleared.
They should have closed us down, not made us drive in all the snow and ice, but at least I made it there and back safe. If tomorrow is worse, I'm calling in.

Don't you have the ability to work from home anymore?

I still have access but they won't approve the remote access if I'm capable of getting to work, which I was. If I called in, I'd have to take a sick day.

Does your boss also believe the Internet is a series of tubes for lottery balls and racing horses?
Tell him it's the 21st fucking century.
Besides one more person at home is one less person using company electricity, heat, water, and other resources.

My boss is a she, first off. Second, you'd think that would make them happy, but it doesn't. They like to be able to watch us. Can't watch me from home.

They can if your connected to their network. (i.e. VPN)
Tell your boss I'm shorting their stock and investing in her competetors because their lack of common sense and technology use is gonna make me rich.

My friend in the IT department said they can't see anything I'm doing that isn't on their connection - so even if I'm connected to their servers with the VPN client, they can't see what I'm doing off the remote server.

Umm my argument that your company is stupid for making their workers drive in treacherous conditions when they can do their jobs from home is weak?
I could be wrong but I don't thik I am.
But just in case, I think I'll go to bed and look at this argument tomorrow with a fresh pair of eyes.
Although I admit I'm biased since I can do most of my job from home and my boss told me it was perfectly ok to take a snow day. Especially since he's in KY stuck inside his own home.
Goodnight.

last nite at work while i was thinking out loud, i said something that called for that but no one was around to hear!
oh! speaking of work, i was right about my "talk" with my store manager. in a few weeks, i will no longer be working overnight and no longer have to deal with my evil supervisor!
