Nickelback’s Ex-Drummer Clarifies Reason For Departure, Sort Of

Ex-Nickelback drummer Ryan Vikedal wants to set the record straight: He is not leaving the band of his own accord — he was fired.

Thursday, we reported no reason was given for Vikedal’s departure. Now it comes to light that he was told to take the long road by Chad Kroeger and the rest of the band during a surprise meeting on January 3 at their tour manager’s house. Vikedal told the Edmonton Sun that the entire event was a complete surprise.

He said that things seemed fine over the Christmas holidays as they prepared to go back to the studio with producer Bob Rock. But then came the meeting where Kroeger and the gang told him they didn’t feel his heart was into the music anymore. We wouldn’t blame him, but Vikedal says that isn’t the case and he feels it’s just a lame excuse to kick him out. He said they never really got to the root of the matter.

Vikedal also told the paper that his replacement is going to be Daniel Adair, the drummer for Three Doors Down. Adair also from Vancouver and the two bands toured together last year. Adair is also played on tracks for the new Theory Of A Deadman CD, to be released on Kroeger’s 604 Records.

Meantime, Vikedal is going to study music at the Berklee College Of Music in Boston. As for a sneak peek of the new CD, Vikedal revealed that Kroeger has done a complete about-face and decided not to enlist Bob Rock and will instead produce the new record himself. He also said it will be "Ballad-y," which obviously isn’t much of a new direction for Nickelback.

No members of the band were available for comment, but their management company denies that the drummer has been replaced as of yet.

Well... they formed in high school and used to be called Kara's Flowers (and sounded very different than they do now). They put out an album in 1997 then were dropped by their label. Their guitar player started playing keyboard more than guitar and their sound changed dramatically, so they got an extra guitar player and changed their name to Maroon 5 in like... 2000 or somewhere around there.

the reason i dont like maroon 5..

our class was going on one of our annual trips and one of the ditzes brought her cd player with that "this love" song burned on it, along with her speakers.

she and her friends played it on the bus (1.5 hr ferry, 2.5 bus ride) plus in the cabin (i was next door to them)

it got SO annoying i wanted to kill something.

if they hadnt played it so many times i dun think i wouldve hated them as much as i do now.
