Thanks everyone
My feet hurt, my head hurts, and I'm still very exhausted but it was all very worthwhile for this event. You should see the feedback forms... it makes me cry to read what the women wrote about how amazing their day was.

Kathy are you going to make that an annual event? I love that you called it the day of empowement. Was it held on international womens day?
That was a huge undertaking but we need volunteers in our society like you. You are a great role model.
Yeah Kathy

bleargh! i almost slept in *again*! set my alarm for 8:30, and when it rang, i kept hitting snooze. around 8:50 when i usually get up, my alarm starts ringing, so i think, "yeah, yeah, i know. i'll get up", turn my alarm off, turn over in bed and go right back to sleep. wake up again at 9:27 when my first class is at 9:30, and before you know it, i'm flying all over the place putting clothes on, getting my stuff ready, and running to my class because i'm supposed to have a test. got to class at 9:35, thankfully, but shaking as i've not had breakfast yet and cursing myself for being so stupid.
i hate it when this happens. the most unpleasant way to start your day.

Yeah Kathy
This is the second one we've held, and it's meant to be an annual event. Because of quick turnover in shelters it is technically needed on a quarterly basis but it's not feasible to do it that often. It took over 100+ volunteers to plan, thousands of volunteer hours, and the event will have cost us over $8000... we're still gathering receipts and calculating.
It would have been nice to tie into Int'l Womens Day but we had to get availability of our CEO as well as every conference room in our office building, so we had to go with the day after IWD. Close enough!
Feedback is coming in from our shelter partners today about how excited the women were when they got back, went through all the stuff they got, sat with their shelter workers and explained how the day went, talked to their kids about what they did all day, etc. Makes my sore feet, no sleep, no voice left all worth it.

So, I didn't tell my colleagues that I was up until 3am trying to get OLP tickets. I just told them that I hadn't slept very well - which was true. I did TRY to sleep beforehand but was just too wound up - so I got lots of sympathy for being tired and crappy all day. hehe.
