Since other photos are not yet available (*looks at Sean*), here's one from the current tour that I found whilst GISing for something else:

question: am I actually expected to be able to sleep tonight?

I'm thinking not

Well, if you're not sleeping, then why aren't you online getting giddy?

This day did not at all turn out the way it should have.

It started out GREAT. EVERYTHING was coming together. Everything was working perfectly.

It ended quite differently.

Jess and I met at Queen's around 1:30. Trying to decide where to eat lunch, we walked down Princess St more or less aimlessly. As we reached the last intersection (below which was a hotel parking lot), we were waiting to cross. Something big pulled up beside us.

A bus.

A tour bus.

Matthew Good's tour bus.

All excited, we watched it pull into the hotel's lot. We kind of hung back watching for a bit as people got on and off. Eventually we wandered down past the hotel to the waterfront to wait (feeling awkward, but hoping to see Matt or Raymi). We saw Matt get off the bus (then go back to get a coat, and then back off the bus), and we started to approach him but we were both too shy/felt weird (finding him at a hotel and not the venue - even if completely by chance - felt strange). Matt went into the hotel, and Jess and I headed back up Princess St to get lunch. We had some subs, then headed to the club. On the way, I spotted a poster for the show in Sunrise (CD store). We went in and I asked the guy at the counter "Hey, I was wondering if I could have that Matt Good poster ... to get it signed at the show tonight?" Guy: "Well .... I was going to keep it. I'll rock-paper-scissors you for it. Best two out of three." My rock beats his scissors. Guy: "Damn!" My scissors beat his paper. I win! As he was taking the poster down, I asked if he was going to the show "Nah, I decided against it" ... suddenly I didn't feel bad at all about taking the poster from him. After all, I was actually going to that show! We continued on to the club. We tried at a couple of other stores to get a poster for Jess too, but no luck.

As we approached the club, the bus was just backing in (talk about good timing). Either Matt snuck past when we weren't looking, or he was already inside. While waiting, Gavin (gavtodd) and his girlfriend Vicky wandered up. We didn't know they were coming, so it was awesome to meet up with them and hang out (see: everything coming together). We discovered that the club door was unlocked, so we all filled in and looked around until someone asked us what we were doing, and said we'd have to wait until 8:00 to come in. My friend Krista came in a taxi an hour or two later (still only us and a couple of guys in line). We hung out talking and laughing and being all excited and giddy. Melissa (the opening act), came by and asked us what door she had to use to get into the club (they locked the front door after kicking us out, haha. Eventually we heard Matt singing, and we all pressed our ears to the door (it was loudest at the cracks between the doors, we found!) and listened to him do a cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", Life Beyond the Minimum Safe Distance and Tripoli (well, parts from each song, anyways). This was around 6:00-6:30ish. (doors open @ 8:00). At about 7:00, some guys came to the door and said "They want you all to come inside now." We were confused, but excited, thinking we were getting like VIP treatment, or that we would get to see a soundcheck.

That was, of course, before we turned around inside the doors and saw a firetruck outside. Then an ambulance pulled up.

Confused, we sat down on some comfy lounging area, used the bathroom (it had been a long, cold afternoon, haha), then came back to find out what was going on. The people who had been watching at the door said that the paramedics went on the bus. We were all trying to figure out what was going
on.

We waited around for what seemed like forever. We thought the ambulance must be for a roadie or Raymi or something. After all, Matt had just been playing and singing mintues earlier!

That was until Matt walked off the bus (quickly shielded from our view by a sheet), got on the stretcher, and into the ambulance.

Instantly the mood went from excited joking to gloomy tension. I tried asking a guy who was working at the club, but he didn't seem to know what was going on (or didn't want to tell us). Eventually he told us that we'd get an update in a few minutes.

Eventually he came back out and said that the show was cancelled, and that we could keep our tickets for refunds or a replacement show. We kind of stayed in the club, unsure of what we should do, how we should feel. We were disappointed about the show and worried about Matt. I mean, how serious could it be? He was just singing!

Finally the man we've dubbed "Merch Guy" came out to take away some boxes from near where we were sitting. I'm not sure exactly how we got on the topic, but he asked if we still wanted to buy t-shirts. At first a few of us were hesitant (it seemed weird to want to buy stuff when Matt had just been hauled off, condition unknown). We started looking at the shirts (not the same merch from the last tour, Sean! new stuff for this tour). Merch Guy felt sorry for us, so he gave us $5 off the price of the shirts, so we each got one. Then I asked "Do ... do you know what happened to Matt? Is he okay?" Thankfully, he didn't seem to worried. "Ahh, yeah. He'll be all right. He's been a little sick. He was just throwing up and everyone got worried. He's a bit paranoid about that stuff anyways. Like 'I've got avian flu!!'" (a joke to ease the tension, I think). "but he should be just fine."

A little relieve that he was okay, we asked "do you have any other merch?"

I ended up buying the t-shirt, some pins, a patch, a free sticker, and one of the posters. Only 400 made, each one signed. Pretty cool deal.

We also asked about if Matt would come back to do a replacement show. Merch Guy said that he most likely would ... maybe an all-ages show (just conjecture).

Leaving the club, Gavin and Vicky parted, so Jess, Krista and I spent most of the night crashing hard off the pre-concert high. Our conversations drifted from our usual joking fun to sudden waves of *siiiiigh* and "damn. right now we'd be watching the opening girl" or "I wonder what we would have been singing along to right now" (basically torturing ourselves, helpless to think about anything else).

We're all frustrated and disappointed, but we were also concerned for Matt.

It sucks right now though, because there is not yet a new date to be excited about. It's all up in the air. Is Matt okay? Will they reschedule? If we knew he was fine and he'd be playing again on X date, we could at least look forward to the show still. But now we're wondering if we'll get to see him on this tour at all. :(

More torturing myself: I should be all excited on a concert high right now! But nope, just sad and worried and disappointed and all that.

On the bright side: if/when he comes back, we don't have to worry about scrambling to get merch before or after the show. Plus there's a chance that our excitement will be even greater after this unfortunate low.

Everything had just been working out SO perfectly tonight. :(
