9) Tall dudes that stand at the front of the stage should have their testicles pureed. You're tall dumb ass, get in the back, or at least back a few rows.
I'm tall and still I always try to get a front row spot. I have just as much right to stand at the front as shorter people.

The majority of Metallica fans I know, thats all they ever wear. Ever. So maybe that has something to do with it.

What's bad is when you're standing there and it's busy and some tall person stops right in front of you and decides they want to watch the show from there so all you can see is their back. Even at 5' 9" that happens way too often to me. I actually told someone off yesterday for doing that to my short friend and he moved to stand behind him which was nice

I wear band shirts to every concert I go to.
if you buy the shirt at the venue i think it's fine, because I don't like to hold it or put it somewhere. But I think it's lame to actually wear a shirt of the band you're seeing to the concert.
actually it is a unwritten rule not to wear the aritst shirt of the artist you are seeing.. YOu aren;t the only one who heard that Lando..
I just saw that rock rules thing. LOL. Made me laugh. 13 made me laugh.. It doesn't really apply to me although I am on the heavy side. I get in front cause I love watching people play.. Not cause I want to be close to the singer.. but I have seen that at shows.. In Montreal there was this huge blonde in front of Raine.. it was funny. She and her friend were so obnoxious to any fans behind them.. Anna (starseed3333 ) could tell youall about her. Yeah like Raine is going to leave his beautiful wife for you..
Oh and the bad singing. There were these girls at MSN show in NYC singing almost Opera like when OLP played their accoustic show there.
Nikki can tell you..

Yeah that's stupid, that's like saying: If you're tall you should go to the back of the pit area so that all the short people can have the best spots closest to the stage. I'm 6 feet or so and I'm not going to pay 30-60 bucks for a concert ticket to let someone who's height challenged take front row or make my spot way shittier just so they can see. If short people know they're shorter than others and are going to have a hard time seeing then they're entering the GA area or pit at their own risk.
There's no assigned seating or standing spots, so why should a person of any height short or tall give up their spot that they paid good money for?

REM were amazing last night

From a personal fave songs kind of perspective it wasn't the best show I've been to as there were more recent album tracks than really old ones. I did finally get to hear Orange Crush live which made me very very very happy

and the new stuff sounded pretty good live too. There was a good mix of famous songs for the more casual fans and more obscure stuff for us crazy obsessive fans who know every word to songs that are older than most CMers! And the venue's pretty small (I think it holds about 5000 people and the upstairs seating bit's really big so downstairs is a nice size) so the atmosphere was great. Ohh and they played Walk Unafraid which still makes me all tingly at the beginning.
The very bestest bit though was in the encore. They'd just done Sweetness Follows which was great and then Michael announced they were going to play a song for only the 2nd time in the past 18 years. He then went on to say his most pretentious moment in the past 24 3/4 years was naming the song, but it was beautiful. So of course I was very excited and trying to work out what song it would be and then they started playing Swan Swan H which is a beautiful gorgeous song from Life's Rich Pageant which is my favourite REM album and the guy next to me and I got all excited and sang along while most of the people had no idea quite what was going on. And a lovely person on the REM board recorded it all on his camera and the quality's pretty good so I can relive the experience over and over again.
The only problem is that I am apparently more unfit than I've ever been in my life and actually got out of breath at the end from singing along (which I didn't even do that much of compared to other shows). I need to sort that out soon I think!
I can't wait until July to see them again
Here's the setlist in case anyone's interested. You certainly get a lot for your money - 2 hours and 25 songs.

I agree with the fact that it does look pretty stupid and over-enthusiastic, but I think people make too big a deal out of it. I mean, it's someone's clothing choice, what does it really matter to you?

that is sooooo much easier to say when you've never had your view blocked by like, 1 head before. even if you paid the same amount of money, got to the venue at the same exact time, and are just as big of a fan.

Not true. I've been going to concerts since I was a kid and not with like parents and stuff. Most people get into concerts during their early teens, but when I was like grade 6 or whatever I was short too, but you just have to understand that if you make the choice to stand in a large group with people who are taller than you, that's your choice. Most concerts have seating, if it benefits you more to get a seat than to stand behind someone tall, then maybe you're better off doing that. General Admission areas shouldn't be restricted to accomodate someone who is shorter than another person. The fact that they have GA means there's no assigned places and you're choosing those tickets at your own risk.

i think if you are in a spot and there are some people shorter then you around you then you should let them go ahead of you. Its not going to kill you to be a foot further back and you get a good arm rest.
it just looks dumb wearing a shirt that says "our lady peace" at an our lady peace concert. Brent I think you are just a bit ignorant to realize very few people wear the bands shirt to the concert and those people to do so to make it seem like they are a bigger fan.

so short people have to sit in the seats, away from the stage because they're short? that's not fair either. it's not the point of the shorter person getting the better spot, it's the point that if the tall person moves EVERYONE will be able to see, not just them, because they'll be able to get a good show anywhere.

Yeah well there are a lot of tall people, it would be discrimination to say "oh you're tall you have to go to the back so short people can see"
If a tall person wants the front row okay fine, he's not going to be blocking everyone's view, the stage is high enough so that if you're like 4 rows behind him or her you'll see just fine. If you're like right behind a tall person sure it could block your view, but the point is, it's not assigned seating, just because someone is tall doesn't mean they should move to the back to let someone short be up close and have a way better spot.
And as for what I said about the seating, it's just a person's choice. If they feel they can see better from there then go for it. I didn't say all short people SHOULD only sit in the assigned seating.
I clearly stated in my first post that it's stupid for either short or tall people to give up their good spot that they paid for. If you get a good spot, or are like Nikki who waits outside events for 13 weeks before it starts, then it's your right to stand where you want. If a short person chooses to go into the pit and they have trouble seeing, that's their choice, just like if they were to choose to move and stand behind someone shorter. The same goes for a tall person, if they choose to go sit in the seats, maybe they prefer the seats. It shouldn't be discriminative to someone who's tall just because not unlike a short person they want to be close to the stage.
And if anyone were to say, well it could be discriminative to a short person too! Well that's bullshit because I'm not saying a short person doesn't deserve to have whatever spot they get. I'm saying that there's no assigned spots and that anyone can stand where they want, no matter what their height/gender/race/sexual preference is.

i don't know, it's still not fair and i'm sure there's a better way of doing things, but it's never going to change ever ever so there really is no point in talking about it i guessss.
