I couldnt disagree more. An artists job isnt soley to entertain. Art has always been about making people look at something differently than they may have in the first place. Thats what good art is.

The album title doesn't bother me at all. And politics is fine in songs if handled with insight into our society. You can't say what messages can and can't be delivered though music. Otherwise we have a lot of cheesy pop shit (which we already have enough of)

and the title I think is referring the George Bush's smile when talking to the people........it has an arrogance about it to some people.........and many question his moves in Iraq. Music is find to let people think about that kind of stuff. Its a lot more provocative then Do You Like it or Somewhere Out There.

I don't like musicians or artists who spoil award ceremonies like that though. That can be self indulgent.....let your music speak for itself.....don't lecture people.

So far I like OLP's direction this time. Not to say the music is all there, but if its political and provides some relevance its obviously worth thinking about and therefore is a step up from Gravity.

"Wipe that Smile..." to me sounds like we have to wake up to what we are being told and get involved instead if relying in the self assured smirk of a politician......maybe any politician.......and that it makes it a worthy title.

Joe Cool wrote:I thought the same thing about happiness when i heard the title. For me it will really depend on the art direction. A good cover can make any title look good. Oh.. and good music helps too. :freak:

But, honestly, "Happiness is not a fish that you can catch" is a more obscure phrase than "Wipe that smile off your face". Sounds like something some preppy black girls say to each other in one of those "Oh no you di-int" fights.

Dont personally give a hoot for the name of the album nor the artwork to be honest. I always thought it was the music that mattered about bands/artists. And even so where has the title 'Wipe... etc' been confirmed? heck the only place i've seen mention it as a possibilty, before olp.cc put it up was here.

Can't really judge the new material yet since all we have is bootlegs from 8-12 months ago. But I do see a lot of potential in most of them esp Talk Is Cheap.

I'll only accept it if it's "Wipe............that smile off your face"

I wouldn't mind it at all. When I heard Wipe... and No Warning, I got a really angry feeling from them. So the title matches that. But then I heard Don't Ask Why, which sounded very happy. So I don't know.

Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

I think it all really depends on the overall sound of the album. if they are going for a sound similar to the song WTSOYF, then the title is fine (granted that i am not wild about it myself) But if they are going for a more 'Don't Ask Why' and 'Not Afraid' sound i think the title is a bad idea.

Who doesn't like Bob Rock?

Before him, all OLP had was that first CD with the superman song.

</bad sarcasm>

I love that song!

If I go crazy then will you still call me superman?
If I'm alive and well will you be there holding my hand?

The only thing I will say about the *Title* is that it is pretty popular phrase. I hear it all the time on the soaps, tv, in the papers. So unless you are into OLP like we are, you would have no idea what the meaning behind the song or title is.

I actually really like the song. I love the part at the end where he would insert the city they were in instead of saying this is War. But i actually like the lyric that goes-"I'm not your friend and I won't pretend that I came here for peace ". FOr me that line hits the nail on the head.

It could be worse. They could just call it 6, or just Our Lady Peace. I have seen records like that by many other artist. EX. Lenny Kravitz(5 ) for his 5th album. The band Chicago would just name their records chicago(whatever number the album was) there are others. Then with just the name you have Metallica's CD which people just started calling the black album.

and AXTECH you are a riot, but you put the wrong lyrics. They are actually

I’m more than a bird…I’m more than a plane
More than some pretty face beside a train
It’s not easy to be me

I’m only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
