Exactly.
Plus, SOT was a big deal because we hadn't heard ANYTHING from the new stuff, which is weird. The band was excited about their new sound, and wanted to get it out to the fans.
This time around, we're back to the old routine. Band's played the songs live, so we've got a taste of the new stuff. Now there's no hurry to get the single out. Sony will wait until closer to the album's release, so that the heat doesn't wear off before the album comes out.
Just to point something out

Let's take some history lessons.
OLP First Single History:
"The Birdman" Release - February 28, 1994
"Naveed" Album - March 22, 1994
"Superman's Dead" Release - December 16, 1996
"Clumsy" Album - January 21, 1997
"One Man Army" Release - July 30, 1999
"Happiness" Album - September 21, 1999
"In Repair" Release - November 15, 2000
"Spiritual Machines" Album - December 12, 2000
"Somewhere Out There" Release - April 5, 2002
"Gravity" Album - June 18, 2002
Let's also not forget that all the single release dates are OFFICIAL and some radio stations (especially in the case of One Man Army and Somewhere Out There) played the songs a week or two early.
Personally, I think it is painfully obvious that "SOT" and "One Man Army" were very early releases for singles. Right now, it seems the album is coming out in mid to late June.
I'd predict with some great mathematical calculations that we should expect a single from the dates of May 10 - May 20 with us obtaining it by "other" means a few weeks before
Does this prove anything? OF COURSE NOT!

The OMA and SOT release dates were based around the hype for OLP. Remember that OMA was the first record from OLP after Clumsy. There was a huge huge hype around that single. It made sense for Columbia to give that record TONS of play before Happiness..... and it worked as Happiness... had a huge first week.
SOT was the first single for the "new" OLP, and allowing it more time before the album release gave it more time to cross over into that "top 40" format.
That being said, Like everybody has mentioned.. SOT burned out way before its release.
If that June release date is official, i'd say we get the single about a month before.

I don't know. There are a lot of new singles released now where the album comes out two or more months later. I can't think of any examples, but I remember hearing a song like in November where the radio station said "the album is coming out in March".
Then again, it was 89X and they always play stuff way before anyone else.

I know my local radio station played a song from the new Avril CD in early March. And my local radio station isn't of the highest quality, so I imagine it's not the only one.
I just wanna get out,
