Hey everyone. Thanks for the welcomes and responses.

To Illusion: Yeah. I never lived through (well technically I was ALIVE) the Naveed–Spiritual Machines era either, I only became a fan post-Gravity. I didn't even know they had changed guitarists at that time.

But let me remind you, the song was still pretty sweet, and was definitely better than most of the songs on HIPT (in my opinion).

And let's not forget two things: This is only one song of at least TWELVE, and I completely loved the "Happiness" album but didn't like "Consequence of Laughing", so let's not worry yet.

And second, in accordance with OLP's MySpace, this song was recorded back in late 2007 (Mazur says "a song about looking over your shoulder", and Dreamland has that lyric), and Raine was only interviewed by the Gazette in 2008, where he was asked about pre-Gravity being more "metaphorical" and he answered "Yeah, (B0b) Rock pushed me in that (new) direction... Im not comfortble with that... I'd like to get back to that (old) place". So... who knows, maybe some other songs throw back to Naveed (think "Life" from SM being almost Gravity-like.. I originally thought it was on Gravity).

Also, I wanted to mention that Raine's falsetto seemed to be much better at this concert than it has been in many recent concert performances I've seen on YouTube from 2005 and 2006 or so, he was able to reach the high notes on "In Repair" and sang "One Man Army" very good, although did forget some lyrics here and there (understandable).

And to close this post (surely won't be my last :)), I'll give you a little background on myself. The first OLP song to enter my ears was "Thief" around 2002, and since then I've been hooked. Gravity was the first album I bought, and Spiritual Machines was the last album I listened to in full (big mistake), and the latter album now ranks as one of my faves. I became a full-on unhealthily obsessed OLP fan around mid-to-end 2007.

Any more Q`s about the concert or any of my opinions or otherwise, shout me out. Great finally being a part of the club.

PS—From my (hazy) memory, I also note that "Dreamland" had decently metaphorical lyrics, but that Raine's low-octave vocals and the music style were most reminiscent of their tenure with the oh-so-lovely Bob Rock. The lyrics weren't as metaphorical and out there as, say, "Stealing Babies", but was better than "Somwhere Out There"`s attempt at originality. :P. And Raine said he was "very nervous" about playing the song. I forgot to mention that. It seems he really wants to re-connect with the fans with this new album. He also introduced the song as a "lullaby", so maybe it's the 4 AM of the 2008 album?

Hey guys

Post by Codes »

its 3am and just got home from PEI. I Managed to get front stage, almost crushed to death, but it was worth it. I have over 100 + pics from the olp show, as well as 5 vids, I also have about 2 minutes of the new song "Dreamland"", which I will put up when I wake up lol. The show was off the hook, the palce went ape shit when olp came out, we definately destroyed some baracades. The new song was actually pretty good, sounds like single material imo, it reminds me of a cross between "Yellow Brick road" and "Not Afraid"

Sweet Codes. I was there too, probably saw you! Yeah it was crazy huh? That fat security guard was hilarious, there were people going over the guard rail like every 2 seconds! I LOVED WHEN SOME GIRL THREW HER BRA AT RAINE!! HAHAH!! "Sorry, it's not my size" LMAO.

Anyway, can't wait for you to post the pics/vids. I need to refresh my memory on the new song. Who knows, maybe I'M in one of the vids lol.

I think it was "sorry, not my style"... and then he put it on Steve's monitor. LOL!

Thanks for posting... I missed all of what Raine said before singing the new song, as I was being crushed by the fat security guard you spoke of. He kept leaning right over my head and suffocating me in his gut while he pulled people out of the crowd.

My husband (Sandy) and I almost busted through the barrier when it cracked open just to Raine's left, and then the security guards and random people were holding it together to try to re-latch it. Sandy got pinched between the gates in the process because people wouldn't back off.

Did you see the girl fight off to the right after Matt Mays finished their set?

I wanted to add... the comments about the new song are interesting. I planned to refrain from posting my thoughts to avoid giving any bias before other people had a chance to hear the song (and I had hoped it would surface on Youtube or somewhere quickly so that we could discuss. I'm glad to hear there's a video clip from someone else who was part of the crushed-at-the-front club!).

My first reaction was that it's a cross between Innocent and Raine's YBR. The chorus had a radio-friendly feel... could work as a single.

so glad to hear there is vid!!! woo hoo well done Codes.

Kathy the description of being suffocated by blubber kinda brought my breakfast up..:P

i am very excited after reading all the posts from the show. I am glad the crowd went 'ape shit' as it will give the guys the knowledge that there is still a solid and enthusiastic fan base.

Happy Canada Day all!

LOL! Sorry

As I was being crushed by the big guy I wondered what the headline would be if I died from belly fat suffocation. Geez.

Hey Kathy!

Yeah, I did see that girl after the Matt Mays set lol! And then another girl passed out right as OLP was finishing up too, right outside the railing! I was right against the railing too, to Raine's left as well, though a bit further than you were, I was right underneath the huge TV screen.

And yeah it looked pretty damn crazy right about where you said you were standing, but at least you were righ up by OLP! Haha did you see Raine when he paused the show to wait for the guards to fix the barricade? Some guy gave him the finger lmao and he was like "ya, thanks" and looked pretty pissed lol. I hope he enjoyed the concert though. Craziness.

Def. a sweet concert though, I'm surprised they didn't play "Life" though, and they only played one song from Spiritual Machines. It was sweet that they played Hope though.

Wow. That looks ridiculously painful.

Life has become somewhat of a musical leech :(... I don't think we've heard a full version of it in about 5 or 6 years now. *thinks* there's been WIC/Life, Naveed/Life, Hope/Life, WTFBU/Life, Boy/Life..

Kathy that looks downright painful. nasty

hope you heal well.

Codes you should join the hub as well. Great place for music sharing. It is a little quiet these days but still a good source.
Oh Codes are you putting it up on the OLP (one of many) pages or your personal page?

thanks for sharing. It is not that bad. At least you can hear it. I actually like it..

I almost did not recognize Steve or Duncan? I think that is the shortest Steve has ever had his hair and I just saw him in Nov..

Kathy
that is pretty much what my friend and I looked like after seeing OLP in Atlanta in 2001.. The baricade actually did move about a foot though. Then again when you are in the front and there is thousands upon thousands of fans pushing forward that happens.. When I saw OLP in 2002 in Toledo that happened. It was so bad. I told security something had to be done. The girl next to me was a little thing and I could see her being pratically squashed to death before she finally asked to be pulled out. You know what that jackass said to me.? 'You are in the front and people wan tto be in front"..   No shit sherlock!!! When it gets thatt bad though security can have the band stop and ask the crowd to move back a foot or two cause people are getting squashed in the front.. I know people want to get up front to enjoy the show. Nobody should have to be subjected to that kind of pain or bruises though. I feel for you Kathy.> I have been there many times myself. I actually got knocked out cold from a crowd surfer at a concert. Security had to come in to pull me out cause I fainted..

BTW Codes and Patrick thanks for posting. You guys are so lucky to have gotten HOPE. I can not believe they did that song at this. They put it back in the set for the Canadian tour of HIPT.. Before that last time the song was done was 1998..

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again
