General OLP News
Re: General OLP News
I'm not a follower of Kings of Leon but saw they are going to be the first band to distribute an entire album this way. It seems to be just extras like limited edition vinyls concert ticket upgrades, etc. The actual album itself was available to pre-order a while back if I remember correctly. I tried reading up on it from people that weren't a) stockbrokers and b) trying to sell it as the greatest thing since sliced bread, and have come up short of a full understanding. It seems gimmicky to me although I think there are good intentions at the heart of it. There also looks to be a lot of opportunity for fraud and ripoffs though so I would be weary in that regard.
Re: General OLP News
I think gimmicky is a good description. I don't fully understand it and I don't think there is a great explanation of it. It's not like a kickstarter where you know that if you pay $X you are going to get Y reward. If OLP dropped SMII that way without offering up regular distribution channels simultaneously, I would be really disappointed.

Re: General OLP News
It also encourages pirating as people who don’t understand the concept or what to do will seek alternative methods. There has to be a logical reason this is happening, and it must be limited time, so that it can be distributed normally. This feels like an “artistic” decision in line with the theme of the album on the future. Way off the mark though.

Right? I have no idea what any of this even means, and if I couldn't get SMII except through NFP that would be a big problem!xjsb125 wrote:I think gimmicky is a good description. Re: General OLP News
I would think that there will still be other ways to get the album. Vinyl sales have been increasing recently and OLP has been taking advantage of that. Every transition period of media has had a period where the older technology and newer coexist for a while too. I also don't think that this will completely replace the digital streaming/download options but that's just my guess.
Re: General OLP News
As per Raines IG story "an additional single for SMII will be released through the s!ng app next month" . Are we getting two singles? What does "an additional single" mean? Least new music is coming
Re: General OLP News
Big deal. Semisonic released a single as FNT 20+ years ago. This is old news.

Re: General OLP News
In non-fungible news, since I see a bunch of people asking about "Good Die Young" I am SHOCKED that no one has posted a clip here yet. By far my favourite track from all the clips from SMII so far. I found it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ourladypeace/c ... chines_ii/
Re: General OLP News
Oh yeah, that was played during the wacky livestream last year. I think Josh was the only person who captured the audio from the show, but never posted any of it.

Re: General OLP News
I remember buying the show and liking 2 of the 3 previews. Good Die Young has got me so hyped. Raine imo has been a bit hit and miss in performances and on Somethingness. But this song is hype, and I really need this record like right now
Re: General OLP News
During the original show I think they made a mistake and played basically the entire song and someone put it on YouTube I recorded it from there. Love this song, throughout it there is a start of something ominous and at the end they play dark notes with Raine belting out. Really cool
Re: General OLP News
Damn that sucks I missed that. Sounds exciting
Re: General OLP News
So according to an Instagram story from OLP last night, track 11 will be put out as a NFT. I don't know what that means or if it will sell for $1M.

Re: General OLP News
Based on the Twitter feedback it seems not a lot of people are on board with this move. I'm also not sure how the whole thing works. I think the main problem with all the interviews and podcasts that are being done about NFTs is that Raine is focusing on how it will be beneficial to the artists/help them make more money. And that's understandable, as an artist you want to be paid for your art. iTunes and other platforms have taken far too large a cut for too long. The problem comes from not promoting it from a consumer perspective too. I know what I'm getting when I buy a CD or record, I have no idea on the NFT thing.
Re: General OLP News
That tweet got roasted pretty good. Yikes.

Re: General OLP News
I don't think it's bad or anything. But let's face it, this is a bit older audience just wanting to listen and buy a record the ways we've been used to. I think if it was "Hey new album is coming xx/xx/2021, and can hear the new song first as an NFT! It really helps us" Something like that. It just feels like a barrier atm.
Re: General OLP News
Raine mentioned a little bit back that everything is just about wrapped except pressing vinyl. Looks like there might be an announcement next month...maybe?
