Yes. In iTunes (while the iPod is connected), go Edit->Preferences->iPod

Then select the option to update manually (I forget the exact wording). Then you just add them to your iPod in the main iTunes window (click on the little ipod picture at the left side and drag and drop songs)

This way it won't automatically update the iPod with only the songs on that computer.

actually, I haven't tried this, but I assume you can do it in the way mentioned above.

yep that is how you do it. My ipod is synched with my computer at work so it doesn't recognize my laptop. the only way for me to get my current music on my ipod is to manually add it.

This also allows you to have more that 4 gs of music in itunes or what ever you ipod max is.

New Question...

So earlier today I opened Firefox as I normally do to surf the web and it immediately stopped responding. So I closed it down and started it again...same thing. This happened maybe 5 times so I restarted my computer and still had the same problem. Just now I removed Firefox from my computer and downloaded the new version and installed that. Now it still stops responding as soon as I open it  Internet Explorer is working just fine (well, as fine as IE ever works) so I don't think it's my ISP. Any thoughts?

Solved it myself...you guys are useless  just kidding  Anyway, I found a message board type thing made for questions about Firefox. Turns out there are some webpages that have such a long address (or some sort of information that Firefox saves is so large) that it crashes the program every time you try to open it. If anyone else has the same problem, you'll want to go into your Firefox folder (you may need to select "Show Hidden Folders" in My Computer if you're on WinXP) and completely delete the file "history.dat"

Ok, my Aunt's computer is royally screwed up.

As she puts it, she was downloading a new version of Norton (after having paid for it), and I guess it's supposed to uninstall the old one while it installs the new one. Anyway, there were some error messages that came up during the installation and she hit abort on one of them.

The end result is that all the icons on her desktop (and, it appears, in all the folders on her computer) are those default white ones (I hope you know which ones I'm talking about). She can't open anything, because it says a program isn't assigned to the icon. All she can use is the internet, and even then if a link is clicked where a new window has to open, that won't open.

She's running XP with service pack 2, as far as I know. I may not have all the details right, but that's the jist of the problem.

Any ideas? If I can't find a solution I'm just going to reformat her hard drive, but it sucks that she spent so much money on an antivirus that screwed up her computer so much. I wish she would've told me firat, I'd ave suggested AVG Free....

haha, I was just going to suggest switching to AVG when/if you reformat.

I really have no idea what the problem could be, though. :\

Maybe try going to a previous system restore point? I'm not sure.

Sounds like the computer might have just lost its program associations. You *could* manually go in and fix them all... but that'd take forever if she has a lot of files. I only skimmed this, but maybe something in here can help (seems to be a very similar problem caused by a virus scanner):

Hitting abort in the middle of the installation of something as important as Norton is a baaaaaad idea. But I'm sure she's aware of this now. :happytears:

Hmm... maybe there's a cable loose? Open up your computer and push them into the back of the rom as hard as you can, then start the computer up again and see if it stays.

Ok, another question..

I'm using Nero to copy an already burnt DVD. Since I only have 1 drive, I copied the files on to my computer. But when I try to burn them (all the.vob, .bup, .ifo, etc.) it always says 'DVD file reallocation failed'

No matter what I try, it gives me this error message. What can I do?

Sounds like a cleanliness issue. Use warm soapy water and scrub down your hard drive.

Ok not really. Did you use DVD Decryptor to copy the original disc to your hard drive? If you didn't, try that and see if it helps. You may also want to use a re-writeable disc or do a test burn first if you are unsure you'll encouter the problem again. You may also want to check and see if you can watch the dvd from your hard drive if you haven't already.

So ... last night I was merrily chatting away on msn and aim and surfing the net when suddenly i couldn't get into websites, though msn and aim were ok. So I repaired my wireless connection cos that normally fixes things like that, but then nothing worked at all. If I troubleshoot on MSN it says the DNS thingamer is broken. But it's STILL broken 24 hours later. I've tried restarting my router, but it doesn't work. So .... does anyone know whether it's more likely to be an ISP or a router thing? I mean my ISP blips occasionally, and I've had to restart the router once or twice, but this has been broken for 24 hours now, and I'm having to steal the internet from a man called dave.
