Before the show, I thought the Walkmen had a very good chance of being one of the best bands of this century, and Bows and Arrows was just the start of something amazing. I guess I got too used to his singing voice and wasn't liking the careless screaming.
He should either sing the songs live or just scream them on the cd, because if he isn't going to try to sing them live, then why bother selling that product?

i do agree that i love his voice and how it reminded me of bob dillon, and at the concert you could barely tell that he sounded like that

I'm going to see the Pixies again

at a leetle venue in London
The tickets sold out in 5 minutes at 9am this morning while I was still on the 'plane. But a couple suddenly must have got released by ticketmaster this afternoon and I got them. When I called up my brother to tell him he told me that he'd tried at 9am but didn't get any. So we both = v. happy

Thanks Jim for covering me. I didn't see that, and clearly someone needed to be a smartass in my absence.

So last night was Toronto's Olympic Island extravaganza. I didn't realize it until I got there, but every band on the bill was Canadian. It was pretty awesome to see just a portion of the great acts we have at our disposal.
Anyways we got there half way through Broken Social Scene's set due to some parking problems causing us to miss an earlier bus. They were a lot of fun, and their lead singer came out throughout the night to perform with The Stills, and Sloan (I don't think Chris Murphy was expecting the guy to give him a kiss on the lips but that was the kind of night it was). They weren't the best sounding band of the night, but they don't "suck" as I said they did yesterday.
The Constantines came on next and were pretty solid. Not much else to say other than they were one of the bands I really wanted to check out, and they didn't disappoint.
Pilate was alright. They slowed things down a bit, and made me ask my girlfriend when they were going to play "yellow", but I guess if you're going to have influences, Coldplay isn't a bad band to get them from. "Into Your Hideout" was altered slightly and sounded excellent.
The Stills were awesome. They got the crowd moving and really put on a good show. They had their drum kit at the front of the stage which made for one of the most interesting set up's of the night...
So Sam Roberts came on next, and blew everyone away. I don't think I've seen a band with more energy, and to be quite honest this set alone completely lowered my waning interest in OLP. This was rock and roll at its finest. These guys were the highlight of the night, and by far the best moment of the day came during "Brother down" When Sam had members of all the bands throughout the day come on stage and play the bongo drums. K-OS was also on stage, and Sam had him sing a chorus of "Brother Down" and then K-OS freestyled. I'm not a fan of rap, but it was still pretty cool to see. Go see Sam Roberts in concert, and do it now.
So as if that wasn't enough, Sloan came out and played mostly older tunes along with their hits. They always put on a great show and had the crowd going nuts. A party was brewing behind the stage and eventually a "conga" line came out from the wings on stage. Fun times were had by all. The guy from Broken Social Scene sang a song with them early in the set, and as I mentionned gave Chris Murphy a smack on the lips on his way off stage.
Anyways I think the day went off great. Every act was on time, and there wasn't any pushing, or crowd surfing. We gradually went from 6th row during Broken Social scene to the 3nd row by the time Sam came on. Like I said, great day, lots of fun, and I can't wait till all these acts come around again.

^ I wanted to go to that so much.
I saw a band called With Rescue Breathing at a skate park on Friday night. I felt so bad for the guys- there were only about 25 people there, and half of them were under the age of 15. They were doing a soundcheck and when they finished it all these kids shouted, "Hey, play some more!"
The band recognized me from last week, though. I got hugs too.
