Last month the fine folks at ThisOneIsOnUs.org released the first of the 3 disc set, "Another Version Of The Truth", highlighting Nine Inch Nails 400GB full HD release of concert footage to fans, edited and mastered into a full length concert DVD, as well as other formats. This month they release a DVD of bonus footage, and next month they release a DVD featuring the entire 2008 Las Vegas performance, the final one of the Lights In The Sky tour. Several fans have pulled together for similar projects, though not on such a grand scale. I'm working on a DVD of their May performance in Atlanta last year. I wanted to share one of the edits I put together for the disc. Comments are welcome:

Well, Fall Out Boy broke up.

Hopefully the rest of the emo punk pop population will die off soon.

Forgive me for playing devil's advocate for a bit, but I'd love to hear someone justify why emo should die. I realize that hating on emo is a thing now, but is it really any worse artistically than today's current brand of "alternative" radio rock? I hope it's obvious that I'm asking a rhetorical question because clearly the answer is no. If it's emo culture that people find issue with than we may as well throw in punk, goths, metal heads and hipsters. All of which have formed sub-cultures around music as a way of rejecting mainstream values. Sure emo celebrates individualism but these are freaking teenagers we are talking about. Individuating is what they do.

Ultimately my point is this. Dismissing entire genres of music is an entirely ridiculous exercise. You can find worthwhile artists in any genre. Even country.

I wish David Grohl would focus back on foo fighters and make their next album rather then with tcv, although I do like tcv I love the foo

I'd take FOB over a lot of the radio-friendly-similar sounding-alternative-rock that most alt stations play. I don't care to hear the same low and nastily cratchy "rocker" voice over and over. I'm looking at you Nickelback, Cavo, Puddle of Mudd, Theory of a Dead Man...

Personally I'd rather see a new TCV album over a FF album at the moment... Mainly because FF haven't been consistently good lately. 1x1 for hardcore Foo fans seems to be what Gravity is for hardcore OLP fans, although I do enjoy quite a few songs on it. I thought the only impressive part of In Your Honor was the acoustic disc.. the electric disc only had Best of You (which I'm tired of) and DOA. ESPG was definitely better, but the second half of it kind of lets me down...

Anyway, at this point, I just seem to be digging TCV more than the Foos. I hope some of the work rubs off on Dave when he goes back.

I see where you're going with this and, for the most part, I agree with you. To be frank, I think the reason why emo receives as much flak as it does is largely due to the fact that the average person really has no clue what it is they're talking about. With that said, though, I guess I'll counter with this: By embracing a band like Fall Out Boy, are you really rejecting mainstream values? They're an Island Records product enjoying commercial radio play and mass appeal across the board. If by emo, we're talking about bands like Cap'n Jazz, Sunny Day Estate, and Rites Of Spring (all of whom adopted introspective songwriting whilst maintaining the punk aesthetic and a rejection of the mainstream), then sure, let whatever remaining interest people have in those bands live on forever. Fall Out Boy are just a pop band. They're a decent pop band, sure, but in the traditional sense, there really isn't anything emo about Fall Out Boy.

Yes Fallout Boy is a mainstream band along with a host of other mainstream emo bands. They may not sound anything like Sunny Day Real Estate, but they are often lumped in with the emo genre. Anyway, my point wasn't so much that Fallout Boy rejects mainstream values but rather that those who consider themselves emo view themselves as being on the margins.

Sloan is releasing a Extras, Bonus Tracks, and B-Sides album... I can think of another Canadian band that needs to do the same.

No, they just don't like the current press. I have no doubt they'll put out another album in 2 years.

Interestingly, the guitarist and drummer are gonna go balls out with their metal side project. excited for that.

Foos are working on a new album in September. Instead of doing it in an official studio, they're laying down the tracks in Grohl's garage, with Butch Vig as producer. Dave's saying he has a feeling it'll be their heaviest album yet.

Red Hot Chili Peppers also working on an album for 2010.

Back when my music taste was veryyy different, I really liked the band Seether. I kind of cut back on listening to them with the release of "Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces," as I thought and still for the most part think, that it's a crappy album.

Anyway, I read something about how Brendan O'Brien was producing their upcoming 2010 record. I doubt it'll be anything great, but I'm kind of interested as I usually enjoy O'Brien's work.

For anyone else who's an Arkells fan, they've been saying at their shows that a new album will be out in 2011. New songs include Whistleblower, Where Are You Going, On Paper, Country Boy, Coffee, and Kiss Cam. New stuff sounds good.
