I don't like Vampires or Not Afraid.

I like Vampires's lyrics but the music doesn't appeal to me.

really? I think the lyrics need some work. The music is okay.

also with Not Afraid I miss the guitar that was so present in the Juno Awards.

Raine's voice doesn't mesh well w/ the music anymore. I listen to Vampires and I can't get over how STRANGE his voice sounds.. I can't really even describe it, it just doesn't sound right.

I sent some old OLP to my best friend and when he listened to the old stuff and the first thing he thought of when he heard the song, having only heard Somewhere Out There before I sent him One Man Army, was that they must've gotten a new singer for Gravity. So apparently I'm not the only one who thinks something's off.

i think raine's voice has changed a bit- i heard someone say maybe singing lessons? but i dunno i guess that's possible- but it was never that he couldn't sing, he just had like a raspy voice- i think they've just layered it more- being a singer in my own band, i kinda know how you can play with the production to make it sound better- it's something the foo fighters do too i'm not super big on them but their latest cd is pretty good- if u listen closely it's almost like there's two vocal tracks just to make the voice sound more...i dunno full? i'm not sure what exactly the effect is- either way i think it's definetly just bob rock playing with the production A LOT more cuz i was listening to the live dvd and his voice sounds same as always to me- also have you guys noticed that a lot of notes he hits on new songs that seem a bit strained (the "bloooooood" part on the prechorus of vampires) used to be where he would hit the falsetto- if you just sing along with raine, u'll see some of the notes he hits now, he would have used the falsetto on b4, but maybe bob or somebody with the record company just told him not to use it as much- i dunno maybe i'm totally wrong too, but agree his voice sounds different on gravity and even more so on "vampires"- i like the old way it sounded better

Raine's voice really bugs me in Vampires. To me his voice sounds kind of tired, and the vocals seem really rushed.

i second that, go back and listen to some of their other demos, maybe vampires will come out sounding completely different, with different music, lyrics, and maybe raine will sing it a different way...

Listen to the demos from before Naveed. Sure, the songs turned out different on the album, but the demos were all still really good.

Example: Post '75 Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant's voice practically dropped an octave, and he could no longer hit the high notes... but he kept trying, and more often than not it sounded bad. I'd rather Raine just not use the falsetto instead of trying and sounding terrible. Maybe he just can't anymore, it does happen.
