Definitely my favorite release to date! I love the raw sound and Raine experimenting with his voice. This is a great glimpse into the writing process and song transformation from creation to completion. More of these, pretty please!
Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Part of me is a tad disappointed that this wasn't a completely new song that I've never heard. But I never would have thought that we'd get a Consequence of Laughing demo. That song has always been a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine when it comes to OLP songs. Very happy with this track, and I only listened to it on my phone, but the quality seemed good.
The demo itself reminds me of the band Soul Coughing a bit, for some reason.

This is awesome. I heard the soul coughing thing too!
How do you feel about this compared to the final track? I kinda dig the mellow. It's still got a some nice drive too. Reminds me of Led Zeppelin a bit.

Wow, this is absolutely great! Here's my take on the lyrics. Not totally confident on "disguise them," or "and size them." Sounds kinda like Raine's undecided on that lyric and stumbling through it.
On and on, these boring thoughts are not that hard, not that hard
On and on, these boring thoughts are not that hard, not that hard to make disappear
Take all your pills and divide them by color and size
Take all your problems, disguise them with everything nice
Billy ran away, now he's eating lemon crackers in bed
And if you want to stay, would you feed him rice pudding instead?
Nobody wants to harm you when you're outside
But it's hard to believe when everyone's telling lies
Somebody knows that you're just not laughing
You're not laughing
Take all your pills and divide them by color and size
Take all your problems and size them, everything nice
Billy ran away, now he's eating some crackers in bed
If you want to stay, would you feed him rice pudding instead?

It's amazing. Best one yet. What do they mean by doing something different with this release? And to stay tuned?

I thought "something different" just meant a much older song than the others so far, and to stay tuned for the next one.

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Absolutely fantastic! Worth them skipping last week for sure.
Much about the song remained the same lyrically and melodically, but it's really cool to get a firsthand look at the shift in production style from Clumsy to Happiness and how drastically it can affect a song. Love the intro too that didn't make Consequence of Laughing.
I also had no clue that any songs from the Clumsy sessions made their way to the Happiness sessions, besides Trapeze allegedly. Makes me wonder what album-to-album transitions some other songs had.

Really love the intro and then the same thing also in the bridge...also the falsetto in the other part of the song...that litterally gives me chills...amazing i like also when Raine's voice it's really low at the beginning of the song after the intro...now i will mess up the original Consequence Of Laughing (like it happens with Not Afraid after the release) but it doesn't matter hahahahah

Wow, they really threw us for a loop with that intro as the snippet. Never would have guessed it was a demo of a released song. I like the mellowness and find it to almost have an Eastern/Indian sound to it at times (mostly the guitar), much like what I found the Naveed acoustic version to have. I'm just glad that some of the lyrics were changed. Not a fan of crackers and pudding!

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
This is gold on so many levels. His voice alone carries all rhe melody. Its such a powerful force. I love this and how spooky the guitar chords can be but beautiful. This was the best thing to wake up too. I think the best release so far.
and if i don't make it know that i've loved you all along.

Funny, it also reminded me of that newest acoustic naveed track we god.PaperMoon wrote:Wow, they really threw us for a loop with that intro as the snippet. Just listened again. I hear the Soul Coughing, but I'm not big on them. For some reason it doesn't bug me on this song. I loved the slowed-down sound of this one, and the trippy falsetto in the middle. Definitely rough and something I've never thought I'd hear from OLP. Love it!

LOVING "Immune"- it's really nice to hear the kickback to Raine just swirling around those melodies like old times.
Certainly makes a person nostalgic, I listened to the whole album twice today! Goosebumps make me smile...

Tons of emotion in Raine's singing. I love the contrast between the choruses and the falsettos and the low parts. Definitely the best release so far!!
Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Every time I listen to it.. It just gets better and better.
If this would have been on Clumsy it would have been a totally different record.

Also I was reading something on youtube that someone was claiming raine said in an interview in 02 they would never play this song again live and this song is one of the most they regretted putting on Happiness.. Is this true?

Completely unexpected and awesomely wonderful. That really hit the spot.
Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Great release for sure on this one. The music, rhythm, and drums remind me a lot of "When the Levee Breaks" by Zeppelin. It's strange to feel an association between them and OLP for some reason, but in a totally awesome way.
