Hmm. I just noticed I'm hungry. Then I realized that I haven't eaten in about 40 hours.

Uhh. Whoops. *goes to eat... lots*

It's snowing! Granted it's a wet, not-sticking-to-ground type of snow. But still, o_O

This is a situation where you drop absolutely everything and say "fuck it" and go to the wedding!

If that's a possibility. I mean if you have a death in the family or something around that time. I'd say that would take top priority over your best friend's wedding.

I was invited to a wedding in Beiruit. I was too scared to go :S
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

well, the thing is, i don't have a job this year, so i don't have any money. my parents have already spent way too much money on me this year because i needed it. and they're going through a little bit of financial trouble right now as it is so i feel really selfish for asking. i did mention to my mom that my friend was getting married and she had invited me, and my mom sounded very happy, but it's a fair bit of money to go travel to alberta, so i don't think it'll work.

I've been planning since November for a huuuuuge volunteer event at my workplace. We booked every conference room in our building, used internal employees and external people to instruct classes. These classes were for women who have been victims of domestic violence and now live in women's shelters after running from their husbands/bfs. Many of them ran away with their children with only the clothes on their backs, and now they have to figure out how to build a new life.

The event was called the Day of Empowerment. While the women were in classes about resume writing, job search and interview skills, stress management, self care, etc... we had a daycare for their children downstairs. We also did a business clothing collection drive and provided each woman with business suits, shoes, purses to take back with them... they can often find casual clothing for cheap or free, but not good quality clothing for interviews, etc. And we did a toy drive so the kids got to take home all new stuff. And we gave them gift bags on their way out the door with Body Shop donations, gift certificates for groceries, etc.

The women were astounded at the end of the day with all of the attention we paid to them. They said they felt important, and they haven't felt that way in a long time. The kids were overjoyed after having fun all day and then receiving new toys to take back with them.

One woman said she only left her husband a week ago and it has been very hard to be alone... she has never had a job, never managed money, was never allowed to do anything. She said over the last few days she has considered going back to him because it was awful being beaten, but it is also awful trying to build a new life and feeling alone. She said today gave her the strength to believe she is doing the right thing and can make it on her own.

I cried. Tears of sadness for what these women have been through, and of joy for how happy I saw them today.

I'm sorry this was soooo long... I had to put it somewhere.

I think it is wonderful that you planned that for those woman. It's nice to see people in this world that try to help and that actually care about other people.

I get to have an EEG done tomorrow. Exciting.

And Kathy, what you and your group did for those women is incredible. You should really be proud of yourself. You probably put bright spots in the otherwise very dark lives of those women. You rock.

it's 2:30 am and i'm not the least bit sleepy. in retrospect, that 5 and a half hour nap today was probably not such a good idea.

that, and getting a bit too involved in the new stephen king book. that man describes gore a bit too well, and it's a bit icky.
