I had never posted that before, so I was slightly amused by the command for it.
I just wanna get out,
Stuck inside of this.
Waiting for something else,

No no... if there was a picture of posting the same thing that's been posted 92374832942739874482374 times already, THAT would be the :noobs: emoticon.

I suppose :wall: is the closest we can get to that.

world on a string is really growing on me. to be honest, i think wipe... is the weakest of the songs to come out, but it's still pretty decent. i love how unique the sound is on it.

oh also, if you get a chance, get the clips onto a cd and listen to them with earphones. computer speakers don't do justice. they sound much better on earphones.

Meh, they are saved from streaming audio. That really craps out the quality. Better than nothing though :D

Now that I've gotten over the excitement of new OLP material, I've gotten over the clips.

They're just not very good.

I listened to Hello Oskar today. We're never going to get lyrics like that again from OLP. Just clichés mixed with vaguely angsty commentary.

Then I listened to One Man Army. Possibly one of OLP's best songs. It's so strong in all areas. Again, the new lyrics pale in comparison. And don't even get me started on the instrumentation.

All in all, I guess I'm dissappointed. I remember when Mike left the band, and I was panicking because I thought it might signal the end of OLP.

Now, I really wouldn't care if they called it quits. Not that I'm hoping one way or the other. That's just the point, I really don't care any more.

I'd be very surprised if I bought this album. I'll download it, give it a listen, but it probably won't go much further than that. The fact is, if I want the type of music they're making now, there's bands out there doing a much better job of it.

It's actually been a while since I listened to OLP (I've given them an unintentional break, I guess). I suppose the blessing of these clips is that I've been reminded of the awesomeness of their past work, and I can be excited about it again.

Kind of an odd feeling, one event both making me love and lose hope in the same band.

I remember marching, I don't want to remember falling for your lies.

I almost didn't post that, because it could cause people to bitch and fight.

It's my opinion. Don't let it get to you. Just like I understand that people like the new stuff. Just like I understand that most of the world isn't a fan of OLP at all. Read it, and forget it if you will. Just some thoughts I wanted to put out there.

I posted something similar to that a few pages back Rob. I agree with everything you said.

my post from 3 days ago that goes along with Rob's post wrote:After listening to these songs when they came out I then decided to take a look at all of OLP's songs from the first 4 albums, which we all consider to have deep, profound and intelligent lyrics. I think in a lot of cases the lyrics we see on these songs aren't much different from those on the other records. The difference is in the guitars, and drumming.

I think the little quirks that were in the older songs are what made us perceive those songs as complex. Listening to Happiness and SM on headphones we find layer after layer of sounds. The fact that all of these sounds make the songs sound complex, as forced us to carry that idea over to the lyrics as well.

Also, I think that for many of us OLP represents a time in our lives where the lyrics meant something specific to us. I don't feel inspired or moved by anything OLP has done since Gravity, and I think it's because I moved on from a different part of my life where a lot of pleasant and momentous memories occured along with their music. Hell, I still get chills sometimes listening to 4am only because in grade 7 it was a song I slowdanced to with the girl I liked. It's almost nostalgic. I think a lot of people here understand what I mean by this. Go back and compare the lyrics from album to album. I think you'll find songs with simpler lyrics than anything we've heard so far from Vampires. What I found weird was that SM has some incredibly simple lyrics. I know everyone considers it their best album, but apart from the insertion of "mechanical" or "computer" there really isn't a lot of substance there.

I come across as bitter about OLP only because there's a part of me that finds it difficult to believe that a band that once inspired me, no longer creates music that has any effect on me whatsoever. I don't know if this music is good. I don't know if it's bad. All I know is that it doesn't inspire me, and to me that is what makes a song or an album special. Sure these are only small clips, and maybe the best parts of everything have been cut out of them and saved as a surprise for the album, but I'm going to side with the "highly doubt it" column.

I'm glad there are people here who dig what they've heard and I'm going to refrain from critquing. I think the people who dig it are people who can feel the music. Personally, I can't, and that's not OLP's fault.
