i saw the video on MTV and it was frightening. They are a punk group that had a very large cult following and now they are getting out into the open more with their new album similar to the ataris.

AFI = best band ever. well, one of the best, imo. anyways, yeah the video is a little strange. and like the ataris it's buzzworthy too.

anyways

you should definitely check them out, listen to basically anything off of their new album "sing the sorrow", or "art of drowning" and "black sails in the sunset" any CD's before those are a very different sound for them, much more hardcore/punk souding. i'd definitely recommend the first 3 albums I mentioned though.

oh yeah, 11 days till i see them live

they sound nothing like the ataris
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

Their video for Girl's Not Grey reminds me a lot of STP's video for Sour Girl.

Just thought I'd contribute.

i was saying they got a considerable boost on their new album like the ataris not that they sound the same. both went to major labels and are getting more exposure.

yes it is a lot like the sour girl video which also scared me and it wasnt the drugged scott weiland that scared me.

yeah, it's REALLY hard to pick favorites on this album but i'd have to say: paper airplanes (makeshift wings), this celluloid dream, ... but home is nowhere, and death of seasons

and if you've noticed my previous posts on this album, you know that my favorites change like, daily,

My favourite songs off the new album are probably silver and cold, this celluloid dream, and this time imperfect, but it's really hard to choose. This time imperfect is so amazing live...i just got back from the concert in seattle, and i'm bruised and beat up from being in the front, but it was so worth it. davey held my hand during triple zero  . we met davey, jade and adam after the show and during the day we met hunter at the mall. they were so nice and they have so much energy when they play. the moshpit was crazy, and my friend passed out and lost her spot in the front, but made me stay and take pictures. it was probably one of the best concerts i've been to (besides incubus and olp), and i'd give anything to see them again!

I plan on trying to meet them after the show and have no clue what to do. Oh yeah, do you post on the AFI message board?

we didn't wait for very long for them to come out, about 30 min - 1 hour, and if you get there early, you'll probably see them walking around. they are sooo nice! we just waited around by the back of the bus, there was probably about 20-30 people there.
i have an account at the afi board, but i mostly just lurk, like i do here. my name is just a phase

oh my god. that's all i can say after seeing them live tonight. seriously, the best band hands down ever to make music. i've seen our lady peace 3 times, and keep in mind that they've been my favorite band since I started middle school (6th, im now in 11th) and our lady peace does not hold a candle to afi. ooohhh man, i can die happy now. if anyone wants to see my pictures i can scan them after i get them. all i can say is i am so jealous of jeff (since im assuming you're going).

setlist, in case anyone wondered: (not in order, but full)

miseria cantare (it was so awesome to hear 1,000 people chanting this song)
prayer position
lost souls
triple zero
this secret ninja
days of the phoenix
total immortal
this time imperfect (this song was AMAZING live)
morningstar
ever and a day
wester
leaving song part 2
girl's not grey
dancing through sunday (jade played his solo EXACTLY like on the record)
encore:
death of seasons (the industrial breakdown was amazing, favorite song of the night, hands down)
god called in sick today (he walked on top of the crowd, literally, amazing)
