My favorite in order by the "groups" (separated by asterisks) seen below...best at the top...

The Bad Plus - Give
****************
Rachael Yamagata - Happenstance
The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free
theSTART - Initiation
****************
John Lennon - Acoustic
Alanis Morissette - So-Called Chaos
Morrissey - You Are The Quarry (Special Edition w/ B-Sides and DVD!)
Modest Mouse - Good News
****************
God Lives Underwater - upoffthefloor (would have been higher on the list, but they screwed up the production of it)
Cake - Pressure Cheif
****************

That's my top 10. Some more are listed below that I hope to get for Christmas (or that I will buy soon after) that will probably make the list as well (no order)...

Nirvana - With The Lights Out
Saul Williams - s/t
Green Day - American Idiot
Evanescence - Anywhere But Home

And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

I'm told that Evanescence's DVD was filmed horribly.

That would suck! I'm looking forward to the audio CD portion more though, so I guess I could live with a poorly filmed DVD if I have to.

i'm glad to see the start on a few of these lists.

the start - initiation
tsunami bomb - the definitive act
none more black - loud about loathing

and the hands down best cd of the year:

big d and the kids table - how it goes
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

Arcade Fire - Funeral
Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
Death From Above 1979 - You're A Woman, I'm A Machine
Panda Bear - Young Prayer
Interpol - Antics
Brian Wilson - Smile
Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat
Castanets - Cathedral
Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans
Futureheads - Futureheads
AC Newman - The Slow Wonder
Mirah - C'Mon Miracle
The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free
Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days
Madvillain - Madvillainy
Xiu Xiu - Fabulous Muscles
Walkmen - Bows + Arrows
Saturday Looks Good To Me - Every Night
Fred Thomas - Turn It Down

Those are my 20 favorite albums from 2004.

Madvillain's "Madvillainy" is my favorite hip-hop album from this year. I have to give the lovely noises from Panda Bear and his Animal Collective mad props, they are two of the best albums I've heard this year. Xiu Xiu wrote the best song I heard this year in "I Luv The Valley, OH!" Tom Waits impressed me, like always, but wasn't one of the best albums that I heard this year, sadly enough.

Top 5 Albums, In Order:

5. Walkmen - Bows + Arrows
4. Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans
3. Mirah - C'mon Miracle
2. Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
1. Arcade Fire - Funeral

Some extra points from 2004:
- Guided By Voices will be missed.
- Fred Thomas from SLGTM wrote an album that was better than what he wrote for his band.
- The Magnetic Fields could have done better with "i" It took five years for that?
- Pavement's "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain" was the best re-issue of the year.
- The Unicorns "Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone" came out in 2003.

Are you from the UK? If not, then I have officially lost my title of "the only person outside of the UK who knows The Streets" or so it would seem.

Seriously though, I'm glad to hear that not only does someone else know about them, but that they made your list of top albums from 04!

(Oh, check my sig!)
