Did punk rock get it right?

Seriously!

The last (and only) two sentences I heard in the last 15 minutes have been...

"I thought we didn't do vasectomy reversals here" and "Gee whiz, this plant is losing all its thing-a-ma-jingers."

Back to the topic...the last song I remember hearing before I left for lunch was Is Anybody Home - OLP...

Courage - Tragically Hip

They are doing 4 shows in Winnipeg this week...kind of bummed that I'm slow on the uptake and didn't get tickets.

The horrible radio station the older ladies here at work listen to. Life would be so much better 8-4 if I could listen to OLP in the office. Plus OLP hasn't been played on the radio here in Pa since Somewhere Out There - which was barely played.

I may of told the one older person in my office that the other radio stations didn't work...ummm...only kind of a lie as the other ones don't always work...but as i complained about previously, she'll turn it off when she gets a "headache."

This station plays at least 4 OLP songs a day, but they haven't had much love for the new stuff - except Innocent (which is new stuff to me still)... Naveed/Starseed/Superman/Clumsy/OMA/Thief/Life (and a couple others) are in constant rotation here.

My iTunes "Genius Mix." It's a new feature for iTunes in which a mix is automatically made for you using existing songs.

The mix it labels "Alternative" is as follows:

1. The Thrills - I'm So Sorry
2. Antony and the Johnsons - Dust and Water
3. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Contender
4. The Headlights - So Much for the Afternoon
5. The Rosebuds - Cape Fear
6. Camera Obscura - Careless Love
7. Danielson - Time That Bald Sexton
8. Andrew Bird - Spare-Ohs
9. The Decemberists - The Bagman's Gambit
10. Bjork - Play Dead
11. Of Montreal - Sink the Seine
12. MGMT - Youth

Pretty freaking dead on, i'd say. Generally the mix flows pretty well, and contains music I'd likely throw together in a mix if I did it myself. I'd be interested in what kind of results others are getting.

Sometimes it weirds me out when I mix it based on a certain song. It'll be like "y'know what goes good with radiohead? Michael Jackson's Off The Wall album!" The one I just ran on NIN is pretty good though.

Also, I find it doesn't play them in order, and sometimes repeats songs. Does that happen to you?

Genius "the feature" is different from Genius mixes. If you update genius after updating to iTunes 9 it will compile a set of mixes for you based on your listening habits. Those mixes will appear under "Genius" on the left hand menu bar.

Of course you are going to get better results as more people start using it, as the genius feature is based primarily off of what other people are putting into playlists with NIN. Of course if you only have 1000 or so songs spread over different genres, the system's effectiveness will also be reduced.

Anyway, if you just select a song and click genius, it won't play them in order because its not really a mix. It will just bring a list of (hopefully) similar music.
