I see him tomorrow night. Unless he is too sick. Been really sick on this tour. Said he could not cancel and reschedule shows so we will see what happens. Very small venue. He seems to play here every two years. Each time venue gets smaller and smaller. This one is only 250 people

I'm excited about this, and interested to hear how the audio sounds. They're recording off a Pro Tools rig, so it's not like a soundboard recording (soundboard actually sounds nothing like what you hear over the PA at a show).

RileyLewis wrote:Trust me that Arrows of Desire is one of his best ever. One song in particular (Garden of Knives) is knock-your-socks-off great, it's so strong and intense. He really knocked it out of the park with the studio editing on this one.

I finally got my copy in the mail today and just finished listening. I like it much better than Lights, and Vancouver. It does have a very solid rock sound to it, leaning a little towards the lower end of alternative. Garden Of Knives is definitely the highlight track. Great build, great music. Love it. Arrows Of Desire has some great music, but the chorus does nothing for me. So Close, and Guns Of Carolina don't really do anything for me either, with So Close being a track I'd have dumped off for something else. I thought Letters In Wartime would be terrible too, but once the rest of the music kicked in, it became one of the other best tracks on the album. As far as solo studio releases, I'd put this one third on my list:

Hospital Music
Avalanche
Arrows Of Desire
White Light Rock and Roll Review
Lights Of Endangered Species
Vancouver

Also, I noticed Bob Rock in the credits. Matt fucked up and will never get his old sound back. He's just making garbage now. His singing and playing is because of Bob.

Haha. From what I understand (on MG's forum), Bob had nothing to do with the album, but perhaps some of the equipment was loaned from him.

Yeah, it's an overall solid album. I enjoy all of So Close except for the chorus, which I think is a bit too repetitive. Garden of Knives is amazing, and I also love Mutineering. It feels like it could have been on Audio of Being. Via Dolorosa and Hey Hell Heaven are also solid rock tracks. The first single (Had it Coming) is pretty good, but I love the song after it, We're Long Gone. Guns of Carolina is decent, and I like Letters in Wartime.

I think I'd rank it among his solo work something like this:

Avalanche
Arrows of Desire
White Light
Lights
Hospital Music
Vancouver (though I really like a few songs, like Great Whales)

Overall I'm just happy he put out another solid rock record in between his other more experimental stuff.

Wouldn't you know the first live track he releases is my least favorite from the album.

Why does Hospital Music rate so low for you?

It doesn't really rate low, it's just lower than some others. I enjoy all of his work!

And while So Close is one of the weaker songs on the new album, the quality of the live performance is really great. I am very excited to hear the live stuff as he posts them every few days.

Is anyone from NF taping any of the shows? Joe, or the other guy in Edmonton who's name escapes me at the moment?

I really want to see one of the Beautiful Midnight shows. It's my favorite MGB album. London or the Toronto show on the 10th are on my radar.

I do know that a full video DVD recording will be made of the Victoria show. Full audio will be out for all of the Vancouver shows as well as any Edmonton/Calgary dates. Does anyone happen to have a full list of all the avail MGB/MG recordings that were on the hub or shared? I can add any recordings that aren't widely circulated. Also not sure if you guys saw but 3 full MG shows from 2005/2006 were recently released in video format.

God bless Shawn, I think he is the only one who actively records it seems like. I have a bunch of the stuff that was on the hub. I am tentatively planning on taping the last night of Toronto on the 11th or 12th, whatever day it is. I'll post my list sometime tonight.

Sean was awesome for posting those shows. The guy videotaping the Victoria show is someone we found that tapes on dime a dozen. A few of us pitched in and bought his ticket and in return he is video recording the whole show for DVD. The guy taping the Vancouver shows is Adam. His tapings are generally great. I look forward to seeing your list.

Awesome. Is there a way to do a dropbox or something for the 1998 and 2004 shows? The 2004 shows I used to have on cd. No clue what happened to them. I believe it was the Put out your lights tour if I am not mistaken. The majority of mine are mp3 format. I have a cbc radio show, mel lastman square, edgefest 99 and some pretty bad quality 2000-2001 shows as well.

Here is everything I have in mp3 format. If you have lossless versions I'd be interested in them. Some of the 2004 lossless shows are in .shn format, but you could easily convert to flac without quality loss. Just let me know what you are interested in and I can zip some of them and upload them for you.

Did you look under The Bored forums, and then under the NF+ Lounge? They appear to still be there.
