Just listened to the entire album again and could have easily picked between 5 other songs, but "Last Train" takes it for its different, upbeat sound and the tribal sounding percussion, the guitar work - the vibe of the song is haunting, slightly exasperated, urgent yet hopeful. There are a lot of really good lyrics in the record as a whole, but I feel like this song kicks it up a notch by being something I can relate to on a personal level as well from trying to be there for someone else. Searching for the "somethingness" or life purpose from multiple perspectives - the one needing help and the one who is trying to help and maybe even the one who is both.
And I think this song is perfect as the album closer.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong
