Not that I condone recording shows or would EVER do it myself, but if you're looking for a decent digital recorder at a decent price for taping shows I just saw this one from B&H for under $70. Faninor would know more about these bad boys than I would but I think something like this would definitely get the job done.

That actually looks pretty similar to the one Josh has. But I think his is a DR-05. I've used the Microtrack and Microtrack II for the last 4 years, and have been happy with them. Edirol's R-09 is also a very popular recorder. The catch with those two are that they will run above $200, but you can sometimes find them on eBay or Craigslist for less.

The other thing to look for is a good set of microphones. The best on a budget mics are probably made by Church Audio. Core Sound makes some great mid price range mics, and DPA, Schoeps, and Sennheiser are on the higher end.

Often you can find gear for sale, used, at taperssection.com.

I have a few couple recorders:

Tascam DR-07

Tascam DR-03 + Tascam PR-10.

The smaller models that run off of AAA batteries (DR-03, PR-10, and the DR-08 you linked to) aren't quite as good as the larger models that run off AA batteries (DR-07, DR-07mkII, DR-05). The inputs overload easy -- not ideal for recording concerts but it's possible, and there's a bit more noise in the recordings due to all the electronics being shrunken down and shoved into an even smaller space.

If someone does want to pick up a recorder I'd probably recommend the DR-05 or DR-07mkII as a good choice. B&H has some deals for them too. Oh, and I recommend B&H too, I've bought from them several times.
