There are two fans from the Rex Goudie boards spamming the Clumsy Congress with posts (including huge annoying signatures). They are known as "snakedance" and "NLgirl". Today I logged in after only 3 days of absense and was confronted with something like 700 new posts, almost all by these two. They've been very defensive and insulting in their responses when confronted about their spamming. It's annoying everyone and we'd really appreciate it if someone stepped in and moderated. In my opinion they should be banned because they are making the board practically unreadable for anyone actually there for Our Lady Peace. One of our members also went over to the Rex Goudie board and found a thread about this whole bombardment. It's an intentional attack and it's frustrating. These two refuse to leave on their own.

Thank you for reading this.

Most of their posters seem to think it's all over the graphics, which was only a piece of the problem.

Hmm ... Jeff seems to have disappeared, but I shall make my points anyway.

I think really there are generally two problems which become intertwined at times - the first being the total lack of value for money on .net and the second being the hot seats packages.

Olp.net first:

I joined I think the very first day the site became active and the number of bugs was shocking. The site had obviously not been tested - especially the blogs and the online chat. People should not have been paying for a site which was still in effect being beta tested. While some bugs have been fixed, many have not - on the 30th of October I reported a problem with editing photos on blogs, and I bumped the post for attention on the 7th of December but it has still not been fixed and is very annoying. Additionally there are still multiple places on the site which still say inxs instead of olp or link to inxs.com pages instead of olp.net ones. There has been no site of the month since the very first month either.

Now onto the content of the site. My point regarding who has access to what has already been copied in here - but I really think that would help people to know exactly what each level of membership gets. The next bit is taken from Josh's blog, as it sums everything up better than I can.

- = accessible to non-members
x = accessible to members only

[ ] Priority ticketing before the general public

There was a presale but at the same time it started, a "hot seat" package with better seats than the fanclub only presale was sold, and it was available to the general public (no fanclub passcode required).

For the shows last fall, this site's presale linked to the same place as the One Man Army presale, which is free to join and thus not a benefit of membership to this website.

[x] Exclusive behind-the-scenes video
[-] Exclusive on-the-road video
[ ] Online chats with OLP band members
[-] Member-only limited edition merchandise offers
The closest thing to members-only merchandise offers is the hotseat package with its included merchandise but again that was offered to members and nonmembers alike.

[ ] Wallpapers
[ ] Buddy icons
[-] Exclusive galleries
[x] Fan interaction
[ ] Some surprises
Surprises? Well, we were all surprised by how much this site seemed like it could have been the rebirth of the PPU, and how much it has failed to live up to expectations.

benefits of "transparent human" membership
[ ] Welcome letter
[ ] Exclusive tour laminate and lanyard
[ ] Contests for VIP passes
[ ] Contests for opportunities to meet the band
This really shows that people are not getitng what they've signed up for. What is not mentioned on the site, but was at a meeting regarding it last year was that part of the reason for paying for membership was to fund more bandwidth so that more and better quality multimedia would be available on the site. However, the quality of videos that have been hosted on the site are technically lower quality than the ones we used to get from the old free olp.net. I was also disappointed that the Christmas greeting was obviously done as a rushed last minute job at the last show of the year, and thus was not available until well after Christmas. However now, we find that anyone buying a concert ticket to see OLP will have access to the things that we have paid to access, which doesn't seem right. Also, as I posted somewhere else it seems that a surcharge on ticket prices pays for these "free" memberships - so those .net members who have bought tickets (and many of us have bought multiple tickets) have paid yet again for something we should have already paid for.
Other people have already talked about other fan clubs that work well and work for the fans rather than just seeming to be a money gathering exercise for the band. I would like to throw in REM as another example - for $10 a year in north america or $12 in the rest of the world, you get 4 mailings a year, normally just a newsletter, but with a special package of exclusive stuff at Christmas, presales, and every member who books tickets for a GA show through the fan club gets sent a wristband which lets them into the venue before everyone else, they also put on fan club only shows and give opportunities for members to be in the audience for tv/radio shows. Now, I appreciate that a fan club of that size can do things on that level due to economies of scale, there are things there which it wouldn't be too hard for OLP to do. I should mention here that I was highly disappointed that .net did nothing with regards to tickets for the Live @ Much special that OLP did. It would have taken barely any effort to run a competition and put a member and their guest on the guestlist, and yet that did not happen.
Now, on to the hot seat packages.
My first problem with them is on principle alone. Charging inflated prices for those who can afford them is really not in keeping with what has been OLP's constant refrain of how much they love their fans and how we're more like their friends. All fans should be equal - it should not be a case of only those who can afford it getting to sit in the first x rows or whatever (and please don't tell me that there were good seats in the presales too - I'll get on to that later). Even with the extra things being thrown into the packages, they still do not offer value for money - Matt did the maths elsewhere and I think that the $170 packages were actually only worth $90 - so there's a definite profit margin in this for someone.
The next problem. The hot seat packages are being run by the same company as runs the fan club. It would therefore make sense that the hot seat tickets are taken from the fan club allocation given out by the promoter and I would like someone to either confirm or deny this. If this is the case it is entirely wrong. The true fans who have paid $25 or $35 - partially for access to presale tickets - should not have to give up their tickets to people who can afford to pay a lot more for them. It has been said that a small percentage of seats were actually set aside for the hot seat packages and that there should have been access to other good seats for the presales. However, for Vancouver there were no seats ahead of row J (9th row) available on the fan club presale at all - for either show. My guess, given Stace's comment about there being 50 soundcheck passes per show, would be that the same number of seats for each show have been set aside, regardless of the size of venue, so while for some arenas there were 2nd row and other good seats available, for the Vancouver shows the seats on offer were appalling . Even for the two arena shows in BC, merely 5 minutes after the presales started I could only get row 13 seats for one show and row 15 for another. It should not be the case that fan club members should have to wait through 2 presales (the .net one and the HOB one) in order to get the best seats in the general sale. Just to clarify, I'm aware that there are probably commercial reasons, agreements with promoters and such that may mean that the fan club allocation cannot consist of every single one of the best seats in the venue. However, for NO fan club members to be able to get good seats through the presale (as has happened with all the BC shows) is just not on.
The people who join the fan club are going to include the crazy fans who will go to multiple shows and travel distances to do so. After spending over $2000 to go to BC for four shows, there's no way I want to shell out another $500 for the better seats - they'll be left more to the casual fans who will only be attending one show local to them.
As has now been announced, there will be 50 hot seat ticket holders at each soundcheck. Add to that the radio station winners, fan club competition winners (I'm assuming there'll be such a competition), all the other people who attend soundchecks and there will be an awful lot of people there, which would really diminish the experience all around.
OK, so I think that's it. I shall finish with some questions that I think need to be answered.
I also have a few merely practical questions:
In my experience (limited, but not THAT limited) bands who play multiple nights at one venue will only do a soundcheck for the first night - I've seen OLP themselves do this before. What does this mean for the people with hot seat packages for the 2nd Vancouver show?
A free Human membership will be offered as part of the hot seat packages, however some fans may prefer to have the Transparent Human membership - will they have the opportunity to upgrade if they so desire?
Then other questions (some of which I asked earlier, but I want all in one place):
Are the hot seats taken from the fan club's allocation of tickets?
How many hot seats are there per show? Does it vary depending on the size of venue?
Are the band members aware of this (the hot seat packages themselves and the concerns with .net)? In general? In detail? Were they aware of these packages before they went on sale? The answers to these questions will be checked with the band so don't think about fobbing us off with some vague answer!
When will someone be looking at the unresolved bugs which have been reported (and all the inxs references)?
Can we please have some "at a glance" guide to which memberships give access to what?

OK, that's me done for now, though I'm sure there'll be some things I've missed. I have to close by echoing Nikki's comments, I feel more like a dollar sign than a fan at the moment. I am VERY upset about being treated this way by a band that I thought cared for its fans.
